Windows is full of security holes, and to close them, you need to update Windows.
Just out of interest, does anyone actually do this?

Every day. Oh, yes, I am the head geek. I want Winders to be as accurate and safe as possible.
Disclaimer: I use Deep Freeze on all the student computers on campus. Deep Freeze is my lifeline. It keeps my nose above water. Without it, I would be sunk. The problem with Winders update and a frozen computer is that the computer must be unfrozen before making any changes to the OS. Not practical.
In the case of student computers, I wait until a whole lab needs changes or new software. Then, I unfreeze one student comp, uninstall Deep Freeze, make all my changes and run Windows Update. Once I have all the Windows (and Office) updates installed, I use the appropriate version of Ghost to copy the fiXXored computer to the rest of the room. Voila! I have a ruum full of exact clones!!! Ha!!1111onethousandonehundredeleven.
I love to be able to clone a whole lab at once!

When I format, I head to Windows Update and download the critical updates as well as some of the other updates and then visit every so often to update it.

You should install them. If people actually installed their updates when they came out I would have had a fairly peaceful autumn in work.
Microsoft release patch for RPC DCOM vunrability. One month later someone writes the blaster worm.
Had people patched their PCs the month before they wouldnt be ringing me up going "Why is my computer rebooting?"
My Dads computer kept on coming up with windows update every 10 minutes and it kept on connecting to the web on its own accord, also we couldn't uninstall it (becuase its part of windows duh:rolleyes: )

It says 'new update found' every week or so (the automatic thingy) so I update it at those times. Also every two months I think "hm.. I'd better check my updates" and visit the update site.
