Some bloke called Spencer Halpin is making a documentary on the effect of violence in video games, presumably for cinema release if he finds a distributor.

Lol, thats all I can say to this. This is so like US. Oh, and germany. Lets blame everything thats bad on somethign we think is stupid. Something we dont know that much about.
Anyways, I couldnt care less. USA has always been weird. They protect their young from bad things like swearing. But let them be exposed to violence and death in TV. During a documentory about Vanilla Ice(Nothing was on the TV that night) they censored every "bad" word he said. Even censored hos mouth so you couldnt see how he formed his lips when saying those naughty words. But they didnt censure when he speoke about how nice it was to take some weed and get high. Not even when he took some weed and blew the smoke into the camera.
And this is just one thing that are so america. Lets allow fights like UFC going on in out coutrny. Lets make millions of dollar on people watching WWF. But lets ban the violence from the games. The games are more dangerous then seeing real people beating the crap out of eachother(and I know that WWF is fake, but I believe that some americans havnt figured that out yet)
And about that flight simulator thing. They said its the same when kids play 1st person shoot em up. WHAT?! In a flight simulator that trains pilots you have all the sticks, gadgets and stuff infront of you. You dont have all the guns in your hand when you play shoot em up. You have a controller. You cant learn how to aim with a controller. Thats the lamest conection between 2 different things I've ever heard!

The fact that the poor bastard game companies have to make about 6 different versions of a game is bad enough....

Regardless of the content, that is a great name for a documentary.

THat I have to agree with. A very funny name for those who have played and know where it is taken from. Like some sort of insidejoke.

It is a good name. Problem is, it's going to give every person who has barely clapped eyes on a video game in the last fifteen years 'proof' that games are nonsensical crap that should be restricted or banned.

My pastor was at my house once (funeral or somethin'), watching me play Mortal Kombat 3, when he turned to me and asked, "Do you want to go out and hurt people now?"
"...No? Why?"
"Thus concludes my research that video games do not make people hurt each other."
But you're missing a key point:
featuring none other than game-obsessed lawyer Jack Thompson.
I'm fairly certain he's known as an obsessed idiot to most people, gamer and non-gamer alike. His antics in the past have not shown him to be a reliable source of... well, anything. He's just not reliable. Unless the movie cuts out what is, undeniably, his propaganda, aimed at grandmothers and people who have never touched a video game, it will lose credibility. I think more of the population plays video games than long-time gamers like to recognize. It used to be a lot more esoteric than it is now. It would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to impress people enough that it makes them shun games.
After school shootings, the media is quick to pick up whatever first person shooter of that generation and wave it around crying, "MURDER SIMULATOR MURDER SIMULATOR." And yet I don't see the popularity of Counter Strike waning. Since the controversy about the Hot Coffee mod died down, there hasn't been much in the way of media coverage about these sorts of things.
I'd like to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but there's not too much hope. His claim that
his aim is to show that "consumers need access to information about the content of games so they can make their own decisions about what to buy".
is completely stupid, as anyone can look up a synopsis, review, or simply LOOK AT THE RATING (something grandma buying GTA for her 6 year old grandson never thought of) of a game if they're that concerned. Adding to that the blaming of tragic events on games... just, no. Unless it is all a clever "You think I am taking this media standard point of view but you will be surprised if you watch the movie!" type thing, it might get buzzed over for a little while and then get buried in the graveyard where the media throws topics when nobody cares anymore. This is no milestone, it is no reason to get bent out of shape.
And all the while, people will still be playing GTA, Counter-Strike, and Doom.
Edit: Hoy, I rambled, didn't I. Sorry.
Regardless of the content, that is a great name for a documentary.Agreed, I saw this on penny arcade and was all "ha, that was a bit clever" before reading the news post.
I hope there's at least "some" defence of games featured in the film and not just 90mins of "BAD BAD BAD DON'T DO THIS!".
Also there was about 5 seconds of "Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines" In the youtube video, that made me sex-wee a bit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is inexplicably turned on by Bloodlines.

I play violent video games to relieve anger, thats better than doing it on real people. For example if I've had a shit day at school, when I come home I start playing GTA or something like that and shoot some kneecaps.
