does anyone have a d-link router? i'm at work now and i forget my exact model. i'm a software girl, i never got into all the networking stuff and now i am all left behind in the wake of technology. i installed it fine and it works perfectly, i just want to learn more about the wep protectin and what some of those other settings are. i think it was a firewall, but to be honest, i don't really know what it does or if i turned it on. i'm 5-6 hours behind you lot, so maybe this weekend if anyone would be kind enough to talk me through soem of this iwoudl be very appreciative.
then next week will be my annoying windows xp questions. i want to try and figure them our myself first. :)

I just got a router myself, it's not d-link, but i be the problem is not with the router if you say it seems to work!
You can check it works by simply looking at the lights on the front. and you can check if the cable/pc/data lights are flashing/on.
Also, have you configured the router, ie, gone into IE and type in an address like '192.169.0.1'?
This is also were you'll be able to configure the inbuilt firewall (if you have one).
But it sound to me like you have the same problem I had. Have you registered the MAC/physical address of the router with you ISP?
I'd be more than happy to help guide you through a problem with it. It may be easier to do something like that in MSN though.

well the info I gave is now out for all to use anyway, so nevermind.
But the wireless network you speak of will not be able to connect to yours, unless you have a wireless network hub! Your router will not have this function. There, at the moment, are no such things a wireless broadband routers. But you can get routers with an inbuilt wireless network switch. They're very expensive though!
Basically, all I will say is, if it works then leave it! There should be a manual or a cd manual that comes with it. Just read though all the functions that appear on the routers menu screen. If you have any perticular questions, post them :)
