well, seeing how valve announced the delay yesterday, and it's now out in the holiday season with no set release date....

(don't put money on the 30th)

You're a 'the glass is half full' kind of person aren't you.

Yeah, Dibbie's right - 6 days from 'release' we're given this:

There was news posted about how an official statement from Doug Lombardi of Valve Software on the release date of Half-Life 2 being pushed back. Here is what Doug Lombardi had to say.

"The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific "in-store" date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date."

from www.hl2r.com

Will software companies ever get it right?

exqueeze me, baking powder? DIBBIE got it right? no offence to dibbie, but you have a case of mistaken identity there chum(p).

Anyway, hopefully it won't be too badly delayed, i'm sure they'll pulling all the stops out to get it shelfed by christmas...or before doom 3, who mysteriously delayed and came back with their own "impressive physics" (not a touch on HL2's though). My gaming glands are swollen with anticipation :D

Actually the game is finished, valve announced that ages ago. It's Vivendi who are dragging it out so they can wring every penny out of us mugs by cashing in on Christmas.

Heard the latest news? some source code leaked, so it's most likely to be delayed even longer.. as for singel/multiplayer.. I don't know. I've never really played HL online but I looooove single player.

I'm the opposite - there is too much multiplayer emphasis with games now, about time a decent single player was made. Especially as Unreal 2 was such a major suck.

Aren't you even slightly amazed at just how good the AI of HL2 is? and the storyline? and the graphics? and the physics? and the work that has gone into it to make it such a sublime immersive experience?

or are you really only interested in having a higher frag count than obnoxious cheating 12 year olds with names like -=[8UTT]MONKEY=- ?

Don't get me wrong, I like online gaming and trounce most people in MOHAA every lunchtime at work but given the choice I would rather be trying to beat a game designed not to be beaten easily than people who cheat just to win. Maybe it's cos I'm a designer and respect other peoples work, maybe it's cos I'm just a sucker for punishment, but that will always be more of a challenge to me than multiplay...

by the way, are you aware that in addition to the cost of the game, HL2 will be pay per month online? that in itself sucks.

Yeah Scribbly, major screw up on Valves part

erm i seriously doubt it. Valve know that if they charge people to play, no-one will play it, which is steering away from their aim to make it bigger than the original in the way of multiplayer/mods.

major screw up on Valves partno it wasnt, their network was forcefully hacked by using very sneaky and unremovable trojan techniques.

An email account is hacked at Valve software and for over a week it was ignored until the source code was stolen.

Are you seriously saying that something couldn't have been done to tighten security? Come on, granted it was the hackers that actually did the deed, but as this kind of thing is to be expected these days you don't leave yourself open to it, do you - especially if you have such desirable stuff to nick. It's like the queen leaving a note on her door saying 'gone to the shops, please burgle me.'

Although this is unfortunate for Valve (and us as the game will be probably be delayed further) they don't have my sympathy...

but that isn't to say they don't have my full support.

"Are you seriously saying that something couldn't have been done to tighten security?"

Yeah I guess things can always get better and maybe Valve HAS been a bit lazy, BUT I don't know that.

I think hackers will and can always crack anything they want.. there's just no stopping them (1. They can crack codes etc. 2. They're inside companies)

Yes, I could say 'damn you cheaters, you win this time', but you don't hear me complaining about them when they found ways of distributing games, movies, music and software..
please don't reply to this.. we've had enought kazaa etc. threads..

my point is that
- hackers would've cracked the thing anyway
- darn. we'll have to wait longer

Jeff The Jiff

yeah, obviously their security could have been tightened.

the sourcecode is actually advertised at sharereactor.com for download from ed2k.

These files can be used to create programs. These programs are nice, the code is fun to look at, but you have no Half-Life 2. Whats missing is the resources, all the models, levels, scripts, textures, etc. If you program (really, not just html or something like that...) and are fluent in C++ then this might be interesting for you to look at.

To 99,9% of the people reading this, the file will be USELESS. To the rest, it might be interesting to look at, see how they structured things, have a hands on look at their game engine and stuff, but not of real value. And about cheats... Forget it. Until you have the resources, you cant write real cheats for it that would work in online play.

their anti virus software was only anti virus and trojan, so they fell for the good old simplicity that is the KEYLOGGER. ho hum ;\

its annoying. #halflife2 on qnet had 700 people in the other day. thats 500 more than the usual level. They're all sat there yaking, asking stupid question like "HOW DO I COMPLILE THE HL2?!"

If you dont even know how to compile code should you even have it? as someone above me said, the only people this code is useful to is programmers, specifically those who want to program things alike Half-Life 2's features (ie that reflective water etc) and of course cheats :)

As most of you in IRC and on the forums already know,
a pre-release version of Half-Life 2 has found its way
onto Peer-to-peer, IRC, and web warez networks
around the globe.

ffs :(

Source code leaked ages ago, beta released. Oh, and it wasn't just a keylogger, seeing how gabe formatted his PC, reinstalled it and the problem was still there. The source code copied itself for him, and both the beta and the code were taken at once. It was achieved through the lack of security in outlook express, not through valve.

The result of all the code being released and the beta mean parts need reworking, for example netcode, steam authing systems and such, and so the game's been delayed til april.

there is only 1 mod out for hl2 that has been either made or is definatly being made and that is called something like jurassic rage, it's being designed by gabe's brother (gabe is the managing director for hl2 at valve), and it looks really good! I can't wait for it.

Fuckin' damnit, now I'll never play HL2 b/c the fucktards at Valve can't get their shit in gear. First steam, now this dumb shit, damnit.

Jeff The Jiff

dont call them fucktards just because you cant play their game until april. maybe if they were fucktards they wouldnt have made it at all. patience, my little twat.
