Hello
I'm looking for some good hosting that can handle my experimentation needs and wondered if anyone knew of any they could reccomend. I've been designing pure HTML websites for years and now i want to play around with Php, MySQL and ASP.
But the main factor is cost. The hosting must be *Cheap* :P
(<£20 annual if at all possible)
Any ideas?

depends how much space your looking for
tripod (http://www.tripod.lycos.co.uk/) has 50mb of space for free
[http://oneandone.co.uk/xml/static/hosting;jsessionid=E4B5C8FFF901551E9716C57577CBDBA F.TC31b?__frame=_top]1and1[/url] im not sure whether that supports php but that looks pretty good
failing that use a handy google search and find the best value service
handy google search (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=php+hosting)
not definitive but im tired and its a start

host.sk looks ok......
fulfils the whole cheap thing but a few major flaws imo
1) no ASP - not vital but would be nice
2) E-mail - YourName@host.sk e-mail...... urrrrrrghhh! nasty
thanks for the suggestion though

i've used tripod before and found it mainly poo... it always seems to want to make you use its own (extremely slow) programs to mess around. Space isn't really that much of an issue anyway, i'm mainly gunna use it for messing around designing websites that will end up on some other host.
1&1 seems fine as long as you're doing exactly what i'm not - tinkering. It's really set up for websites that go up and stay up and are for some apparant purpose.
and google searches are great but theres soooooooooo many to trawl through.
Again, thanks for the suggestion though.

I find www.34sp.com to be cheap and reliable. But no ASP hosting though.
Their forums are really good with people to help out on stuff.
Of course if you're only experimenting you cant go wrong with installing all you need on your own PC. Windows 98+ has Personal Web Server, and 2000/XP has IIS on the standard desktop instalations. Check Add/Remove Programs > Windows Components
And you can install Apache/PHP/mySQL on a windows PC as well. That's what I use! (http://djnrrd.kicks-ass.net - Dyndns.org are very handy as well)

Just found this package, can anyone see anything blatantly wrong with it? (apart from the £7 over budget thing - hey, you only live once)

Very good hosts, and damn cheap too. You can create your own custom hosting package if you want. They also have 24/7 support.

http://www.hostonce.co.uk
500mb webspace
25gb/month bandwidth
Free domain name
Unlimited POP3 accounts, with webmail or pop3 details
Supports ASP, PHP, ASP.NET, CGI, Perl and ODBC
$6.95/month, or £3.79 (Although that's at current rate, they charge differently at their own price)
I've been with them for about 3 years, they're very good.
