Im hoping to start a forum and i dont know how to start.
Please will you give me a site to let me amke one.

3 Choices.

1. Get some hosting, and set up one like PHPBB or Vbulletin. Fairly easy, sometimes takes some coding.

2. Get some hosting, code your own. Hardest but you know exactly what's going on, when.

3. Get one on a free bb host, can't name any but they're basically services where you get hosting specifically for their board script which you peronalize. Easiest but full of ads, and usually slow.

Indeed, if you know very little about web designery stuff, and just want your own lil forum, then probards is the way to go.

I use phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com/) and I host it on Lycos...

Sure, you get some adverts, but most people use ad-stoppers now so won't be annoyed by them...

Sometimes the lycos server is slow, but I love the freedom that you have with a phpBB forum...

The last W&B forum was phpBB and it worked spiffingly...

Just register an account and you can create a forum. And you can have multiple accounts, and that means multiple forums :)

Download phpBB
Use the info in this link http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article.php?article_id=15 to install it...

Voila, you are set to go...
Takes around 30 minutes if Lycos servers are not being a bitch :)

PHPBB is easy once you know what to do. It may have changed since I used it, but basically read the instuction HTML pages/txt files that come with it. When I had it, you had to make a few changes to lines in the config file (site root etc), upload the lot, run an install script, put in database info and up it goes.

Once you've unzipped it, there should be a file in the folder that says something like readme.txt or install.txt...It should tell you what to do.

It's easy to sign up, and you can get a free phpBB forum there. It's a modified version, but it's okay. I tried it out and made a board. It's really just a test board and i don't plan to use it. http://debateland.board.dk3.com/2/

You're best bet is to pay for a host that supports it. I do and its great!

The site is almost done, so you will all have you're very own PHPBb forum!!! But untill then, you will have to stick with DK3 or Proboards.

Forumotion.com is probably the best if you know how to use it. Proboards is okay for people who want bland skins, but if you're good with CSS, and know how to tinker around with the images in Forumotion, you can make some kick ass skins. ^^
