Sorry for another 'what do you think of this artist' thread, but this one seems controversial.

I really like Athlete's album (whose name has gone from my mind), perfect stuff to relax to, but I've yet to find anyone else whose dislike has been justified by anything more powerful than 'it's really boring'.

Personally I can appreciate the argument that their songs can be a bit samey, but once you listen to them a few times you can see different music in each one.

Any other thoughts?

Athlete is one of the best new bands I came in contact with in 2003.

their album Vehicles and Animals is very very good.

Catchy songs, uplifting the spirits, generally a very good band I hope to see live pretty soon

The current Athlete backlash (caused by some seriously retarded people with nothing better to do) is so stupid it hurts.

They're a nice band! They write nice songs! The have little analogue bloops and blips in their stuff that makes my inner-child and inner-audiophile go 'ooooh!'
The comparisons with the Stereophonics really, really piss me off. Stereophonics : workman-like will this do? 60's robbing shitehawks.

I always thought athlete were very average until the other day, when we had their album on at work.

IMO its a very good, well thought out album, and I can see why it was up for the mercury prize.
