View Full Version : Msn messenger spam
just wondering what you think about the spam running through msn messenger chats(this may just affect me if so ignore me), it used to just be through email so I could just block senders, but now it goes through msn messenger and I really don't want to block these people, but neither do I want constant spam!:(

I've never heard of spam coming through msn messenger convos. Are you sure you don't mean the windows messenger service? If so, it's a simple problem to solve. All you really need is this (http://www.grc.com/files/shootthemessenger.exe) free tool.
Of course, you should always have a firewall too. Some good free ones are:
Sygate (http://wcarchive.cdrom.com/pub/simtelnet/winxp/secsys/spf.exe )
Kerio (http://eu.download.kerio.com/dwn/kpf4-en-win.exe)
ZoneAlarm (http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/1012_zl/zlsSetup_45_538.exe)

Firewalls wouldn't stop it, it happens a lot on aim through aimbots but msn's generally more secure. You can get spam by posting your hotmail address on sites, always put [nospam] in the middle, for example twiz@[nospam]hotmail.com, that way spiders can't read it.

Click Tools on the main window, then click Options. Go to the Private tab, and check the "Only people on my Allow List can see my status and send me messages" box, and click OK.
It should stop the messages.

Virtually everyone was caught out by the fact that they had updated their version of MSN but hadn't updated their version of MSN Plus. So it didn't work.
But obviously it took a while for the MSN Plus update to come out after MSN 6 but yep it's been out for quite sometime now.

They're very crafty you have to go into Custom Installation, otherwise it just installs it on your computer.

http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/docs/messagepopup or this link http://www.pchell.com/support/removemessenger.shtml
both give nice step by step on how to disable windows messeger service, which is different than msn.
yet another reason why bill gates is evil.
