MITCHELL SEALS DOUBLE SWOOP
http://www.qosfc.com/andys06.jpg
New Edinburgh City signings Jones [left] and Hennigan [right]
Jake Mitchell officially completed his frst transfers in his new role as Edinburgh City manager. Splashing out £8million, and sacrificing squad players in the process, Mitchell landed pacey left-winger Kyle Jones from rivals Glasgow United and the highly rated left-back John Hannigan from Manchester Athletic. The deals included centre-back Chris Orton going to Glasgow along with £3million for the Jone deal and a like-for-like swap to bring in Hannigan as left-back Josh Elton made his way to Manchester along with £5million.
Hannigan said of his switch: "I spent a while at Manchester Athletic and I owe a lot of my development to their coaching, but I believed it was time to move on. When someone like Edinburgh comes calling for you, you have to consider it seriously. They are a major player in the JFL and, hopefully, together we can achieve great things."
Jones' transfer is of more interest to the media as it meant a cross over the fierce Glasgow-Edinburgh rivalry. "People will say I've betrayed Glasgow by coming here, but people have to understand my reasons. I was happy to stay at Glasgow, they have a great history and reputation as a big JFL team. The gaffer first off accepted an offer for me, which made me stop and think about my future. I thought long and hard and decided it was the right time to move on. I just hope the people of Glasgow can understand that. If not, I'll just let my football do the talking."
Jones and Hannigan are both widely expected to make their debuts in Sundays JFL kickoff.

Mitchell makes first JFL interview
Edinburgh manager Jake Mitchell sat down for a Q&A session with Asian reporter Tricia Takanawa.
Jake, it has been speculated about that your inexperience will be the downfall of Edinburgh's season, what can you say to your doubters?
Well Trish, the board saw me as the right man for the job, out of many applicants they chose me, so I can assure the fans that I know exactly what I am doing.
Your widely publicised snub of the JFL draft is the main reason fans aren't so swayed, why did you miss it?
I'll be honest, I misread the deadline, I have sacked the assistant who told me the wrong time, because I was very much excited about a free new arrival, but alas, its not to be.
What can you tell us about your hopes for the season?
Well, obviously we're a top club, so we're aiming for the league and cup double, it depends on how the players settle in, a good cup run and a consistent title challenge and I won't have too many complaints. But if my players keep their focus all season, I don't see why we can't win it.
Your new signings, Hennigan and Jones, look set to brighten up the left hand side, which has been cited as the clubs weakest area.
Well as I say, I know what I am doing, I saw an area which was weak, and I improved it, vastly if I may say so. I wouldn't mind one more signing, to bolster my defence, and a new keeper to push Wright for the number one shirt, although I am confident he can do a grand job.
This has been Tricia Takanawa reporting, back to you Tom.

SHAVE SPLASHES THE CASH
FC Mersey boss Shave signaled his intent for a successful JFL season by blowing his full budget on two major signings. The arrivals of midfield general Serg Friedline and wing wizard Richie Braham has got Sandfield Park regulars in a buoyant mood as the JFL kickoff approaches.
Inglostadt decided to cash in on Friedline for £5.25million, whereas Norwich Anglians reluctantly let Braham travel north for £6.75million.
Mersey Supporters Chairman David McDermot said of the transfers: "Shave has shown what ambition he has by signing these lads. Serg brings a much needed steel to the centre of the park and the young lad Braham will at pace to the attack that we've lacked for a good few years now. Its an exciting time. We could be talking Europe if they produce."
SWAP SHOP STREET STRENGTHENS SQUAD
Sheffield City today heralded their busy and most expensive day in their history. Manager James Street agreed to put a massive nine players on the transfer list, signed 4 more and sent 5 on their way in exchange!
Street saw in a change of guard as 27.5 million pounds worth or talent arrived at the doors of The Hallam Arena in the form of right-back Marcus Digby, left-back Tamas Seiaem, centre-back Veron Urncha and striker Tom Dickinson. Sheffield players Dimo Zang, Nick Edwards, Shitoki Namamato, Damien Johnson and Eidur Joese all found themselves moving in the oppiste direction to help relieve some of the financial burden.
A fan at the training ground said: "Its like a revolving door at Hallam at the mo' but I trust the manager. He is replacing average players with world class talent and that can only be good news for us. He is also getting some good deals so hes won't be turning us into Leeds! My only concern is how long they will take to gel as the team that kicks-off the season will be so much different to the one that ended it."
LONDON CALLING FOR IRISH DUO
City of London FC made their first signings of the close-season today in the form of two Dublin boys. Bryan Ineiunt and Jerry Hawkins arrive at Rawlden Park full of enthusiasm and energy. Right-back Ineiunt arrives from FC Rathmines for £4m, whereas central-midfielder Hawkins came in for £4.5m from Drumcondra Botanics.
Hawkins said of his arrival: "I had achieved all I could in Dublin, but I was always concerned about adjeusting to the standard of football, but with Bryan coming with me will make it all the more easier. I am looking forward to working with the gaffer [Tom Power] and getting my teef' into the JFL."
RUMOURS AND OTHER NEWS
Sheffield City are said to be chasing Cardiff AFC right winger Antonio Massaro. James Street sees the player as the final piece in his puzzle.
Goalkeeper Javier Bonsor has been transfer-listed and is desperate to leave Edinburgh City.
FC Bristol boss is looking to strengthen his back line. Zak Delhin is being touted as the big-name to arrive at Greenbank Road.
Centre-back David Hilor has claimed Cardiff AFC are in the chase to sign him. "Everyone saw [murray] at my recent friendly match. Cardiff want me. I know."

Sheffield Hokey Cokey
You get five players in, five players out. in out, in out, shake it all about. There have been changes aplenty at Sheffield City this week with five new players joining the ranks. Here's what new manager. James Street had to say...
"It has been a busy couple of weeks for our management team. The scouts have clocked up more air miles than Richard Branson and we have finally pieced our team together."
"The draft was hugely successful, as we signed world class striker E.Maxim. His reputation is second to none. We have been trying to sign V.Urncha for a while and after negotiations broke down, we managed to secure his services. He will become our highest rated player and will go straight into the team to face FC Mersey."
"We have also signed M.Digby and T.Seiaem to be our wingbacks for next season. They are both rated highly and have impressed during a trial period at the club. To complete the transactions, we brought in T.Dickinson. He has a proven scoring record and will partner, Maxim upfront on Sunday."
"I would like to take this time to thank the players leaving the club for their services over the past few seasons. I wish them all the best for the future."

Jones for Jones as United bid to cover losses
Glasgow look to Jones to complete squad
Transfer-listed Sheffield City player Richard Jones is being chased by Glasgow United, FootballScotland understands.
Manager Graeme Barrie is thought to be seeking a left midfielder to provide a necessary option in his squad, with a bid of around £1.5m reportedly having already been tabled.
Meanwhile, United today unveiled their newest signing in Chris Orton, who moved as part of the exchange deal brokered to send Kyle Jones the other way.
In a press conference held at the Sauchiehall Arena, Orton said "I am delighted at finally being valued as a player here in Glasgow, and I have every intention of forcing my way into the first team of the best club in the country".

Jones staying put, for now.
Sheffield City manager, James Street has reacted to media speculation that left midfielder Richard Jones is on his way to Glasgow United. When asked about the rumour, he had this to say...
"Recently we transfered listed Richard as other players were being signed. Richard is a good player but doesn't fit into our future plans. We will listen to offers for Richard but £1.5M is nowhere near enough. A similar player of his quality is worth £3.5M and we will only sell at around that price."

With the new season just around the corner, we've teamed up with FCBristol.com to give you the compleate guide to the season ahead, and what it could have in store for Jon Knights' Bristol.
The Team
http://www.footballinrome.co.uk/images/derbyapril04.jpg
Bristol prepare to attack a corner against Lille, resulting in a blistering volley from striker Patrick.
Overview
Knights' Bristol are a well organised unit. With pace and skill evident all over the pitch, they can move the ball quicky. Coupled with the offensive nature of Knights' tactics, the team will no doubt controll large portions of possesion in most matches.
The weakness of this Bristol squad lies in it's defensive line. A young and inexperienced back four could cost Bristol everything - and Knights' is moving swiftly to prevent this using the chairmans generous transfer budget to push forward transfers across the entire back like.
The Skipper
http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/2955/d09068an7.jpg
Matthews shows great composure and burys for close range.
No doubt, FC Bristols chances of major success lay havily on the shoulders of skipper Mattews. His pace, vision, passing skill and sheer power are unrivalled on the right midfield of any JFL club. Nearly all of Bristol tactics are expected to flow through him, and he'll be cruicial in their drive for success.
The Strike Force
With the draft brining in world-class forward Francois, Bristol are looking deadly up front. The combination of him and fan-favourite Korderas will be paramount, as any top side know that possesion is no good without an end product.
The Transfers
With Knights putting in bids for no less than THREE top defenders, it seems that the manager is keen to plug a noticeable gap in defense. The backroom staff will have to work hard in order to get the right men for the job, and these few transfers could prove to be a major factor in Bristols season.
The Fans
http://users.pandora.be/heideroosje/rcl/0203/lpsg/psg11.jpg
Duke Street in a rampant mood.
FC Bristol is known as one thing to even those that don't follow the them - a peoples club. There is rarely a spare seat at Duke Street, with the season ticket waiting list hitting almost 6 years. The fans turn out in full voice every game, and drive the team forward.
The fans are sure to do their bit each week, and it can only have a positive effect on the teams fortunes.
The Expectations
The fans expect the best, and the responcibilty rests heavy on the current crop. The fans, the management, and everyone involved at the club will be aiming for success this season. The draft has insured at least somewhat of a level playing field, and Bristol will fancy their chances. They know that they have the talent in their squad to beat anyone on their day, and Knights will ensure his tactics will give the team the oppertunity to thrive.
It is, however, all dependant on individual and team preformances. The new signings will have to stike up an understanding very quickly, and the group will have to gel if this season is going to end in success.

KNIGHTS IN KNOCKOUT SWOOP
FC Bristol today welcomed the strengthening of their backline as manager John Knights captured south-after wing-backs Rasiq Risr and Isque.
Risq arrives from Croatian side Hvar Split for £5m as well as Aaron Banks. Banks said of his move: "I have given my all for this club, I knew I was likely to go somewhere when the new gaffer came along. Yet I'm am happy to face a new challenge in Split, but also that my move will help move Bristol forward.
Isque's deal, £3m and the highly-rated Steven Moore, was a signal of Bristol's reputation on the continent. Isque was also being tracked by close-rivals Cardiff but the Spanish right-back chose Greenbank Road over a move to South Wales.
THE DOCTOR IS IN
The media-shy Dr S finally made a move into the spotlight yesterday as the title-contenders, York FFC, made a move in the transfer market. Dutch right-back Rijk Eldred arrived in York for a JFL record £8.5m and will go straight into the squad for the leagues kickoff today.
Eldred simply said of his move: "[i]Fantastic. This is a great club and I'm here to win things."
When JFL News asked York if Dr S was available for comment on the transfer, we recieved word of a imminent press conference.
The normally meida shy manager of York City FFC called a rare press confrence today before todays home ifxture with the city of London to unveil new defender Rijk Eldred.
He thanked the fans for thier pre-season patience but stressed that he prefered to work outside the pressure of the media spotlight, somthing he belives would have made this transfer more difficult.

Eldred simpally stated the move was "Fantastic. This is a great club and I'm here to win things." - a view shared between the club and their supporters who really see their club as one of the main contenders this season.
Speaking of todays match Shepherd said his team was confidence was with Eldred holding things at the back he expected a highly entertaining match.

The new FC Mersey manager Shave talked to our reporter this morning and spoke of his excitement of the beginning of the re-formed JFL first season. When asked about the teams chances this season he had this to say:
"I'm am happy with the current squad, we have good strength and cover in all areas with the exception of a back-up striker, but I am looking to get that sorted. As for the actual matches I hope to prodcue attacking displays that win, lose or draw entertain the fans. I look forward to this season with great anticipation and I believe that we can put in a serious challenge for some silverware. Bring on Sheffield!"
Looks like morale is high in the Mersey dressing rooms as well with banter running high as the three new boys had their clothers stolen in the traditional Mersey initiation ceremony! We'll be back with the next update fans, white and red forever!

Bristol Weary of Stanshall threat
FC Bristol manager Jon Knights is said to be wary of the threat Edinburgh midfielder Stanshall has on his sides hopes of a perfect start to the season.
"He's going to be our biggest threat. He can pass and move well, and most of their plays will go through him. If we can keep him quiet - that'll be the key to victory."
Bristol and Edinburgh take to the pitch today at Duke Street in this seasons opening match. With their Scottish counter=parts being thought to struggle this season, the pressure will be on Jon Knights' men to get a result.

Shave content with draw
After an exciting end-to-end match against Sheffield, FC Mersey manager Shave spoke about the 2-2 draw: "I find it always is best to draw on the positivites of a match. First of all the result itself is satisfactory when playing away from home against a manager of the calibre of Street. I'm pleased that we managed to come back from one down and take the lead, and obviously slightly disappointed that we let it slip, especially so late in the game. However, I'm very happy that Marquez hit the net on his debut and am sure more magic will be coming. Now that we have our first point under out belt we can build on this. We have shown we can score, we just need that extra bit of composure and legs at the end and we should be able to pull off wins in future games. It is still the beginning and everybody is still testing the water so we don't know what to expect from teams, but they can expect a tough time when they come to Sandfield.

Street unhappy with draw
Newly appointed Sheffield City manager, James Street was disappointed with his sides 2-2 draw against FC Mersey. He had this to say...
"I thought we started the game well. We controlled possession and looked the more dangerous team. We deserved to take the lead before half time, it was a great goal for Maxim on his debut. After half time though we looked a different team. We have worked hard on tactics leading up to this game and they seem to have been lost in translation.
I am pleased with the point just disappointed that we didn't let all the possession and chances count. Considering the calibre of my players I expect us to win. My team are future champions."

2 Words with Jamie Ransom
'Oh bums.'
Usually Jamie Ransom we squeel loudly 'BUMS! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' as his team shower. But not this Sunday.
This was Jamie's choice of two words after losing his first competitive game in charge of Manchester Athletic. Ransom's side lost the game 2-0 to Glasgow this weekend. It is expected that he will change his 4-3-3 formation for the next game. The three man midfield put in a great effort. But unfortunately they tired and allowed the defence to be put under a lot of pressure later on in the game.

Especially with my new signing, Geoffrey Harris." He commented to the press that he was especially pleased with his new signing, Geoffrey Harris. Harris scored one and created the other in the match and looks to have a bright future in Wales. Kidd had this to say: "Geoffrey scored one and created the other. What better debut could you want? "My players gave a good effort today, after going two down I started to get a little jaded, but the spirit shown by the team was brilliant, it was especially nice to see both my new signings having a good effect, Jones with an assist, and Hennigan getting on the scoresheet. I have a bid in for one more player, whom I believe will give our club that last little bit of class needed, then I think we are complete.

Knights Frustrated By Draw
FC Bristol manager Jon Knights has said he was frusted with his side, after they let a 2-0 early lead slip to end up at a 3-3 draw.
"We were in controll of the game, scored two cracking goals, then just let our guard down. We were guilty of getting far too comfrtable, and nearly paid a much heavier price. When you go 2-0 up within the first 10 minutes, at no point of the game should you be chasing a result - and that's what we were forced to do. We were the better team for large portions of the game, but it counts for nothing if you don't walk away with three points.
But it's a work in progress. It's something we need to work on and get right in the coming weeks."

LEAGUE AGREE ON TRANSFER WINDOW
The JFL board today passed legislation to close the transfer window for all JFL clubs after the Week 2 fixtures. This effective means that the window will shut on Sunday 27th May 2007 at 12 midnight. The window will reopen after Week 9 fixtures for one week. Then again after the JFL Cup Final until Season 2 Week 2.
The move was announced by league chairman Jake Johnson: "The league have discussed this matter to death. This wasn't a matter we took lightly. We wanted to give an added edge of a level playing field. Everyone will have to deal with what they have. It means the real managerial talent shines through, not just who has the most money and biggest reputation."
Johnson went on to add some finer points: "Of course we will listen to appeals from sides in desperate need of new players, mainly replacement goalkeepers, but we are in discussion to develop the rules on that as of now."

Leeds Wednesday unveiled their newest players today in a hastily-arranged press conference. First out was the £5.5m right-back Paran Augh'ade. He promptly explained his reason for signing for Leeds: "The JFL is a good league. Shame about the weather."
Once Augh'ade answered some questions he was off. The press started packing away their cameras and notepads when a club representative shouted "Don't wanna know 'bout this bloke then?" The press turned to find Tamas Faust sitting in a chair in the corner in a false glasses and mustache combo. The press got their shots of the £6.5m right-winger as Leeds held the most memorable player unveiling in years.

Leeds Swoop For Dynamic Duo
Earlier today Leeds Wednesday manager held his first press conference since the 2-0 loss at the weekend. His reason for taking this long was given as "I didn't feel like talking to you lot after that cr*p." Moving on from that, he presented right-back Paran Augh'ade to the assembled reporter. He said "I'm sure Paran will prove to be a very useful signing for us, and I look forward to seeing him in action on Sunday." In what later turned out to be a planned 'prank', he then left Paran to answer questions and walked out. Paran, who signed from AR Segal, spoke of his happiness to be in a league of the JFL's status. Paran himself then left, leaving the reporter in confusion.
While packing up his camera, the reporter was surprised by what he had taken for an avid Leeds fan shouting "Don't wanna know 'bout this bloke then?" behind him. It turned out to be Leeds' other signing, Tamas Faust, in a cunning disguise, making a name for himself already as a 'prankster'. The right winger dutifully answered a few questions, explaining his delight at playing for a club of Leeds' stature and especially under a manager like Daniel Bott. Bott himself then returned in fits of laughter, and added "We're delighted to have picked up Tomas. He'll be fantastic for us both off and on the pitch. As you have already seen, he's got a great sense of humour - this was all his idea."
They then both walked out, only for Bott to come back 5 minutes later saying "No, really, it's over now. Go home. We're releasing the hounds in 30 seconds, and they're hungry." When asked about a holiday he was apparently taking, Bott simply said "Get f****d mate, I need a break." It is understood his assistant manager I.P Freely will be taking control of the game on Sunday, though Bott will no doubt be dutifully watching on TV in sunny Devon.

LEAGUE WIDENS WINDOW
The JFL board were in discussion yesterday about extending the transfer window. There have been a few complaints from teams that transfers have not be dealt with as swiftly as planned and therefore they have not got enough time to bulk out their squads in time for the coming season. League chairman Jake Johnson said of the news: "After the JFL database crashes over the course of last week, we feel an extension of the window is only fair. We believe it is best for everyone."
JFL CUP COMFIRMED
To cap off a bust saturday, JFL chairman Jake Johnson announced that JFL Cup has been confirmed and a schedule is being planned. "I'm delighted to say that their will be a JFL Cup to run alongside to the league season. Personally, I'm over the moon about the news."

LEAGUE AGREE TELEVISION MONEY FOR SEASON 2
The JFL board continued to claim more overtime than usual as they passed another topic in a recent meeting. The board, along with Chairman Jake Johnson and honourary member Zola Tavendale, slugged it out with TV companies JFLtv, Star Sports and ESPN Asia to land a £400m four-year deal for the rights to show live top flight games.
Jake Johnson is reported to have brokered a major deal for the clubs. "Most top-flight boards keep most of the money and allow the league clubs to keep upto 20% of the revenue. For exmaple, the Premier League gives it teams 15% of all television money. The JFL have decided to split the revenue 50-50. Each team will get £5m a season from this deal. Monster, monster"

Excuse me for being a bit upfront but I think it would be good to give maybe 4 more places in the cup, maybe lower league teams, like the FA Cup so some other members can be temporary managers and join in the fun.
Just a thought, good luck with it all!:p

Barrie delighted with performance, urges fans to get behind the team
Graeme Barrie may be the happiest person in Glasgow this week.
Speaking at United's joint press conference with Nike to announce the company's new stadium sponsorship deal, the Glaswegian said "I was absolutely delighted with the way the lads performed against an exceptionally competent team in Sheffield. The new lad Richard Jones had a good debut as a sub and he was clearly motivated against his old club, but the rest of the lads were just as good as he was and I can't fault this performance. I'm looking forward to this weekend's match and I hope the same kind of performance can come from consistency in the team."

When asked about the club's sponsorship deal, Barrie enthused "This is just the sort of deal we need to bring some extra revenue into the club, and we aren't forgetting the tradition of the club either. The Nike Arena, Sauchiehall will continue to be an impenetrable fortress for opponents to come to and Glasgow United will make sure of that".

Bott Salutes 4-Goal Guerro
No, not a 1-finger salute. Why would you even think that?
Leeds manager today belatedly responded to his side's fantastic 5-3 victory last Sunday, describing it as "f**king fantastic". When he had calmed down (seemingly still excited by it even now) he went on to say "It was a fantastic performance, especially to pull back from 3-2 down. At that point I was thinking we were destined to lose again, but all credit to the lads - and especially Carlitos (Guerro), he was absolutely brilliant. There's no other way to describe a performance like that."
He then described the crowd at Greenbank Road as "bloody marvellous. They really carried us through from 3-2 down. They probably got us that penalty by themselves - though of course it was blatant anyway. And from 3-3 the level of noise coming from them was massively uplifting for me - and I was just on the bench! I hope they can help to make Greenbank Road into a fortress that the other clubs fear to come to."
It is yet to be seen what effect Bott's management will have on the side's fortunes overall, but the result on Sunday will hopefully have signalled even greater things to come.

Manager cautiously optimistic at early stage in season
Spirits are high at the Nike Arena, Sauchiehall after the team reclaimed first position in the JFL following a two year hiatus from the top slot; but manager Graeme Barrie is cautious about counting championships before they're completed.
"Obviously I'm delighted that the team has pulled together once again to pull out a great result against a top team, especially a team like FC Mersey whose recent form belies their team quality. However, we can't be getting carried away with ourselves after only three games of the season and I won't talk of the end of the season until we approach it. I'm pleased with my team's result and although a win is always nicer, I believe we have performed very well".

LEAGUE AGREES TO ROLLOVER WEEK DUE TO TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
Floodlight failure and network trouble halted JFL in only its third week. A freak countrywide power cut meant there were no safe lighting for the teams to play in, but the main problem was the network trouble that stopped teamsheets being faxed over to the league.
JFL chairman Jake Johnson said: "I'm very disappointed that the games had to be postponed, but we are simply going to shift over to next week. It was a freak floodlight failure over the country and we will be discussing this further with our suppliers DiscountLeccy4U about any future contracts as a result. As for the fax failure, that was unfortunate but key. We will be taking steps to make sure our system does not become overworked again. This could be helped by managers giving a new teamsheet each week so the JFL does not have to keep an archive incase they are being lazy."
