Romario looks tired after trying to explain
that it really was number 1,000. Honest.

Well, he done it. He may have been one the greatest strikers of the last 20 years, but he has finally managed to convince most that he once scored 300 goals in a youth game and therefore has become only the second player, along with Pele, to reach 1,000 career goals.

But Romario admits his tally includes goals scored in youth, friendly and testimonial games.¬_¬

He scored a penalty to make his big number and was mobbed by teammates. It took 16 minutes to restart the game.

FIFA only recognise goals in official tournaments, but might just end up saying "oh, let him have his fun"

No. He only scored 750 goals competitively. That's it.

I scored 1,000 career goals if I include the ones I got during break times at school.

I scored 1,000 career goals if I include that time I cheated on FIFA '05

Pffffffft! He's got nothing on this kid. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bojan_Krki%C4%87)

From the wikipedia article:

Bojan joined the Barcelona FC's cantera in 1999, and scored 889 goals in seven years.[1]

I hope Arsenal steal him like Cesc and Fran Merida.

Oh aye, and no dissing Romario  . Probably the best striker of my lifetime.

I'm not doubting that he was an amazing striker. He was at his peak at the 94 World Cup. Fundamental to Brazil winning the thing, but his image is taking a bit of a pasting with this. He claims to have 1,000 yet even admits that FIFA won't recognise a quarter of them.

Bojan on the other hand has lots in recognised competitions already!
