Alonso is a major part of our team. I would rather sell Sissoko to bring in Eto'o. He has always stated that he would like to come to Liverpool but Chelsea will definately have a say in the matter.

He is a temporamental striker but I am sure we can get the best out of him. He scores goals and that is what we need. Looks like Malouda could be on his way too. Lyon are going to lose him this season, either to us or Juventus. He was the French player of the season and will be a great buy for around £8m.

The papers have linked us to our transfer everpresents, Milito, Alves and Simao. Since Sami is staying I can't see us going for Milito. Alves is a done deal, we nearly signed him last season and with added funds this season we'll get him. Not sure if he'll play RB or RM, it will probably be the latter. I hope Pennant gets a regular place next season. He deserves it.

So...
Xabi Alonso [Liverpool > Barcelona] :trex: x2

jonffm
29-05-2007, 11:37 PM
I don't really agree mate.

I don't think Alonso is ESSENCIAL to our team. I'd be quite content to build the DM around Sissoko and Masc while gradually bringing Lucas into the frame - as he is almost certainly going to be a massive player in the future.

Alonso is brilliant, but I don't think he's been at his best this season. Sissoko wouldn't give us any leverage in terms of transfers to Spain...while Alonso is wanted by both the big players who are willing to spend BIG. We can cover Alonso's position - what we need is a striker that can score and create. That striker is either Eto'o or Torres. If we have to give up a pgreat player that we're already over-crowded in, then we'll have no choice. Obviously i'd rather it was Sissoko than Alonso, but I can't see they taking Sissoko....the only way we'll beat Chelsea to Eto'o is by offering something more than money that Chelsea don't have - Alonso.

If we had Eto'o, and kept hold of Crouch n' Kuyt - as well as Voronin who is on the way - we'd have a nice group of strikers who are all pretty different, giving us alot of options going forward and enough good strikers for Rafa to swap around.

Lets not forget though - the MAIN position we need to strengthen is the wings, which we are very lacking in. We need TWO big signings in those positions, really, so that Gerrard is free to play in the center.

streety
30-05-2007, 10:45 AM
There will be big signings on the wings. We have been linked to a whole host of talent, Mancini, Simao, Silva, Keita and Malouda.

Apparently Malouda is in Liverpool today for talks and reportedly said we had made a bid last night. He is a strong left sided player who would be solid in the premiership. He won player of the season in France but I would rather we signed someone with pace who had a trick or two eg. Nani, Mancini or Quaresma. We also have Hammill coming back this season and new signing Leto, looking for a place in the team. Could mean that Kewell will be sold...

WE'RE ALL FUCKING DOOMED
Manchester United have agreed deals to sign Sporting Lisbon's Nani and Porto starlet Anderson.

The midfield duo are regarded as two of the best young talents in Europe and they have been chased by several of Europe's top clubs.

However, United have stolen a march on their rivals by luring the pair to Old Trafford.

United chief executive David Gill and assistant manager Carlos Queiroz flew to Lisbon on Wednesday to hold talks with Sporting regarding Portuguese international Nani and they have quickly agreed a move for the exciting winger.

Nani is highly-rated in Portugal and has been likened to current United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Tottenham have been credited with an interest in Nani, but United have won the race for his signature.

Brazilian ace Anderson has been widely dubbed 'the new Ronaldinho'.

Anderson has enjoyed a successful season with Porto, helping them win the Portuguese championship.

The 19-year-old has attracted the interest of a host of clubs including Chelsea and Barcelona, but United have agreed an undisclosed fee with Porto for the exciting midfielder.

Both players have agreed personal terms with United and they are due to have a medicals at the club in the near future.

A United statement read: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has agreed terms in principle with Sporting Lisbon for the purchase of the registration of Nani.

"Personal terms have been agreed and a formal announcement will take place once the necessary administrative procedures, including a medical have been completed.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce it has agreed terms in principle with FC Porto for the purchase of the registration of Anderson.

"Personal terms have been agreed and a formal announcement will take place once the necessary administrative procedures, including a medical have been completed."

Should the duo tie up the minor details of the moves they will become United's first signings of the summer.

Absolute disgrace that he's been given a new contract. His victim that he left left for dead at the side of the road doesn't get another chance. His family spend the rest of their lives with in on their souls whilst Hughes gets out of prison halfway through his sentence and walks back into a professional contract earning £3k per week.

I'm now hearing that Arsenal won't get Eto'o, and instead, just £15 Million.

I didn't think it looked right...why would they accept that? If Henry wants to leave, they would frankly be lucky to get anything, since he only has a year left. A bid of £15mill + would be impossible to turn down, because they know that if they did and Henry wanted to leave, they'd get NOTHING for him next year - and have to go through a year of bad press.

Heard rumors about Rafa going for Adriano. He is a world class player who has everything (apart from a right foot). If Rafa can tame him then I would give it a go. Eto'o and Adriano seems a half decent strikeforce.

Barton, first time he goes out in toon will get decked by some radgie nutcase and put out for the rest of the season. Its either that or he'll get beaten on the training field (that'll be ironic).

He has been seen at Anfield loads of times. I can't see it happening. We will be fighting to sign Eto'o but nothing will happen until La Liga is over. The Malouda transfer is going to be long drawn as Lyon are always hard to work with. If that breaks down we will be after David Silva. He has had a great season but Valencia won't want to sell him. On the right, we might be signing the stepover king, Mancini.

We'll see what happens...

Hardly a credible source. I don't think there is anyone that we haven't been linked with.

All our potential signings are problematic transfers...

Eto'o - Causes problems wherever he goes. Going to break the bank to sign him too. Xabi Alonso will probably be used as a makeweight as his contract talks have stalled.
Malouda - Lyon are always hard to negotiate with. They dragged out the Essien transfer and forced Chelsea to pay over the odds. Malouda also doesn't care where he plays.
Alves - Failed last season with a bid and now the price looks to have doubled. We already have cover for RB so why spend £20m+ to play someone out of position (RM). There are also a lot of teams interested in signing him, could be a bidding war.
Pato - Can't move until he is 18 and will attract interest from all the top teams. Maybe the signing of Brazilian Lucas could sway him to come to Anfield. His buyout clause is £10m.
Teves - Well publicised issues with his contract. After keeping West Ham up he will cost a lot more now.

It is going to be an interesting summer. I just hope we don't settle for players like Bent and Pedersen.

He just hangs around the goal and poaches! Only reason he always scores goals. I can't imagine any coach getting anything more out of him.
The toon has got owen, martins, ameobi and luque (lol, luque) up front. The team doesn't need strengthening there, its in defence where we're fucked. At least we've managed to somehow get rid of Bramble (free lolol, he should be paying wigan for the privilege)

I've learnt tonnes looking through this, I was reading some were that Bent (as in Darren Bent) isn't a good buy.... I personally think if Bent is bought by a bigger club he could be a better English striker than Owen and Crouch.. (being Welsh this was something hard to come to admit)

Bent works well, i think, all round. Front of goal and working for the ball.... The British Nations need strikers in the top teams.. we're looking abroad for strikers from European teams and our Countries are suffering...

I would like to see

Darren Bent [Charlton -> Newcastle, Everton, Man City]

Not to the top 4 but to a team in the premiership that could benefit from such a player....

Am I wrong to suggest such a buy?

AngryPaul
07-06-2007, 10:12 PM
Am I wrong to suggest such a buy?Not really. I could really see him at one of the "UEFA Cup" teams in the Premiership like the ones you have mentioned. He is a good striker, he made Charlton look very good in 2005/06 and still got some goals this season as they sunk deeper and deeper.

He definately deserves to play in the Premiership, if not Europe.

I agree. He definately deserves to be at one of the Uefa Cup teams. There were reports that we were going to put a bid in for him. I hope it is rubbish. Considering the links with Eto'o, Pato, Teves and Torres it would be a big let down if we signed Bent.

No more Liverpool news yet. Hicks said we will sign someone by the end of the week. Xabi and Momo should be resigning which puts an end to the Xabi/Eto'o swap. Pepe has signed for another 5 years \o/

Now that Ribery has gone to Bayern, Marseille should have money to spend on Cisse. Hopefully we'll get a tidy some for him. His wife wants him to stay in England though (according to rumours). Bolton are interested, just imagine Cisse, Diouf and Anelka. Good luck Sammy.

Brill news about Reina. I know there wasn't much chance of him going anywhere anyway - but it's nice we've tied him to us for the next 5 seasons. He's insanely under-rated if you ask me, he's one of the top 5 keepers in the world...his record speaks for himself. In terms of penalties, he's the undisputed best keeper you can have.

Great Xabi is staying. I don't have anythiong against him - I just thought it would have been better for the team if we had Eto'o.

Personally, I think the Eto'o transfer has flown. I don't think we can afford him in just cold cash, and I think Xabi was the only player they were interested in. I hope i'm wrong, because he's a superb player...but i'd be equally as happy with Villa or Torres.

I'd also like to see us nab Owen back - at the right price.

Big rumour atm, but I still don't think it'll happen.

I do. .I personally don't rate him as highly as everyone else seems to...because I don't think 7 goals counts as "Proven premiership quality", but he's only ever gunna go to Real or Man U....and Real seem to have gone cold all of a sudden.

Gabriel Heinze [Man Utd -> Liverpool] x2 :trex:

I think Heinze prefers the move over an italian team, as his defensie style is already proven in the premiership. However, would Man Utd be willing to sell their best left back to their biggest rivals? Doubt it. We'll have to make an offer they can't refuse, Micheal.
