because having, sadly, learnt from experience most of Download is 14 year old scenesters who decide to scream and flail their arms around wildly.

Although those "emo hunting" riots last year were rather chuckleworthy, if a bit scary

by crikey!

they'll be more this year i bet.

Aiden and piss bottle was last year too. Aiden are playing again this year, that means more bottles o' piss to be thrown. the guitarist got knocked out last year.

There is Korn, MCR and Aiden. oh and Linking Park who are going to have all the 14 year old secensters. i wish i was going so badly (i would be going with a couple of mates, but no money so i couldn't get a ticket :() as Dimmu Borgir, Turisas and Slayer are there, but alas, no i can't go. oh well, maybe next year.

someone please explain to me what is wrong with being an emo band anyway

they don't know what emo is

mrsnuffles

because most of these people don't call them emo based on the music, just on looks

they don't know what emo is

yeah but 'emo' means so many things that i fail to see why people get upset about it

emo can mean anything from being directly influenced by fugazi to sounding like dashboard confessional. emo can mean having a slanted fringe
actual original emotional hardcore bands sound nothing like mcr but then your stereotypical 'emo' kid doesn't listen to emotional hardcore bands anyway

obviously mcr are going to be associated with their fans, who are often stereotypical emo kids.
the really ironic thing in my experience is 'emo' kids who like mcr and the likes of afi/alexisonfire etc. also tend to like trivium and other metal bands

tl;dr - everyone who goes to download probably liked/likes an 'emo' band and should therefore stop moaning about mcr

richardn111

i think the word is now "scene" kids? or is that something different? those that dress like true emo's or whatever they are just to follow the fashion trend, and also listen to the music being all like "WWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOO MCRRRRRRR" when they don't even like it, just because "cool" people like it..

Saucycheesewhatever: Not to piss on your (black) parade, but it's just not a great thread. It's a problem of the music forum that there's not a lot of opportunity for new threads, and I'm not sure quite what constitutes a good one, but just having an "I like MCR" thread isn't gonna win you any friends. It's better to put stuff like news about tours and new albums, discussion of very new singles (maybe). But mostly, use the search function before posting threads, because stuff like this, most of us have seen a million times before and it always ends up the same.

But don't worry about most of the rest of this thread. People are being idiots.

PS everyone who has clearly minused him: I've just read through the sum total of his 4 posts, and in what way does he deserve to be instantly minused? Yes, it wasn't up to the clearly high standard of posting that we have here, but you could have maybe just pointed these things out rather than being massive twats about it?

I reckon the band are pretty crap, however in my innocence I bought "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge". It's not very good, but the way people go on about them you would think it's just 60 minutes of cats being strangled. Just to put this into perspective, my favourite acts are Dylan, The Beatles, The Stones, etc.

Just don't get me started on Fall Out Boy.

I'm sure people here could take the piss out of my musical tastes all day long-it wouldn't really bother me (but I'm not Emo :¬P). Although, I did find it funny that the first person who posted did a list of "The Untouchables" of rock music. Anyone could look at that list and say "fucking druggies", so they're not so perfect themselves.

MCR is just one band in a bloated genre that's probably going to die a year or so anyway, no matter how much more like Queen their sound becomes.

In my opinion you suck. Jokes. But I think whilst they're not the most jolly of bands, it's going a bit far to say they've poisoned the youths. Lol at all the stupid names for genres they've come up with.

What's all this "poisoned a generation" crap?
If anything's poisoning a generation, it's computer games! (I'm kidding.)
MCR make good music, for the most part. They've got a death theme going, rather than a love theme. It's a little morbid, for sure, but it's different, and it's kinda clever.
My feelings about MCR are kinda like that quote "I don't mind God, I just hate his fanclub". In fact, they're exactly like that.

God, I've been trying to stay out of this discussion, but I figure I should drop in.

"Poisoned a generation" by singing about cancer? That's tame! People have been singing songs with morbid lyrics since the start of rock music. If the lyrics upset you, fine, that's understandable - it's a subject that might be close to your heart. But don't act like they're doing anything new or controversial - that makes them sound far edgier than they really are.

Fact of the matter is, they are a child-friendly, safe, sugary, pop-punk band. The cursing and grandstanding only cements that image. It's just rebellious enough to appeal to kids of a certain age, and that's just fine. If we didn't have bands like MCR, lotsa kids would never get into heavier music; it's a gateway drug. When people grow up a touch, they begin to appreciate them for what they really are, and that doesn't necessarily mean that they dislike 'em for it.

I'm irked slightly by their insistence that they are anything but pop-punk, but not enough to think of it as anything other than an extension of their image.

Poisoning a generation? It's those damn anti-skubs doing that. </provocation>

I've never liked MCR that much, and while the constant controversy about them may have put me off somewhat, it's mainly the fact that I don't particularly enjoy their music.

I do get annoyed at people who like them just to buy into a certain image or whatever, but that goes for all bands - if you only pretend to like the music, or ou profess them to be the greatest band ever when they clearly do not create all that fantastic music, then you're doing it wrong. It's not just MCR that should be used as an example.

"Poisoned a generation" by singing about cancer? That's tame! People have been singing songs with morbid lyrics since the start of rock music.Indeed. MCR just don't disguise what they're singing about much :p If you want examples of other quite morbid songs, once I paid attention to the lyrics of Jenny Was a Friend of Mine by The Killers, and I think that song might be about a guy who may or may not have killed his girlfriend. And another of their songs (Uncle Jonny) is almost certainly about drug abuse. In my book, drugs and murder are worse than cancer, but I don't see anyone bitching about The Killers.

P.S. I've been trying to stay out of this too, but it really annoys me that people seem to have such irrational hate of My Chemical Romance. You're as bad as the fans who wear make-up and get all miserable for no reason.

And if anything has poisoned a generation, it's reality TV. That is something worthy of our hate.

I wouldn't call myself a fan of My Chemical Romance, but I don't mind them. I listen to all kinds of music, so I don't feel like I should have to justify my reasons for listening to them. I wouldn't call myself emo either; I do wear a lot of black and I do have dark hair with a fringe, but I'm a relatively happy person overall.

Part of why I quite like MCR is that they tie in with a lot of other stuff that I like- I'm quite morbid and I have a very twisted sense of humour, so MCR are a band that appeal to me in the same way that Alice Cooper, Rocky Horror, vampire novels and Tim Burton films do. It's just an image that some people happen to quite like.

I couldn't give a fuck either way if other people like MCR or hate them, it's mainly the little girls of about 12 who worship Gerard Way and don't really take much notice of the music that irritate me. To be fair though, that might be because Gerard Way is almost everything I usually look for in a man, only I find him totally unattractive, and it scares me.
