hello.
someone i know is going to be going to Hong Kong and Thailand pretty soon and i do believe that graphics cards are a lot cheaper over there than they are here so i has thinking of getting me to get a good card but cheaper than i normally could.
how would we be able to tell if the card would defintely work with my pc or are they made to work universally?
thanks
(i know almost nought about graphics cards except mine isnt good enough)

There's no reason why not - computer components aren't region-specific.

The one thing you might be concerned about is the software/manual that comes with it since it might be in a different language.

If you want to use the video output on it, NTSC and PAL issues may arise, some will support only one output type. (as far as i know)
Otherwise thats the only problem i can think of, apart from possibly non-english instructions.

I'm going to Hong Kong after next week. I've getting parts from over there since I got a computer, so if it wouldn't work I couldn't post this now.

some do have jumper select on the card for NTFS/PAL, so you might want to check that. (see above)

Both my chief sources are a bit of a gamble.

1) Ebuyer - if I were everyone else I would be complaining about their terrible service/delivery/etc but I have never had a single problem with them (except a warped case which was exchanged immediately and for free (I ended up with a spare case - sweet) and I have used them almost exclusively for components for years

2) Ebay - lots of charlatans trying to rip you off but if you keep an eye on people's rep etc you can pick up some real bargains.

6 hit combo!

On topic though: I'd say that the potential lack of warranty may be an issue. When I say potential I mean it's unlikely that you can return it to the vendor and it's hard to know if said graphics card manufacturer will cover a device marketed in a different country...
