View Full Version : Oh the pain. Is it worth it?

I'm sure this is a sight experienced by many forum users, but is it worth it?
It gets really annoying having to go through your inbox and delete all hundred odd of these emails every couple of days, but I just don't want to stop recieving them because they can be useful when I'm actually online at the time of recieving them.

Are they worth it? Aren't they worth it? Or should a better system be implemented?

Yes, I have myself devised a better system. Turn off the auto email thingy, and just subscribe to your favourite threads :D Simple :p

it should tell you (in a new message window) when you recieve a reply only while you're online ideally.

I just have my email program line up everything according to subject, not the date sent. Then, when I get a bunch of notices for the same thread, they are all lumped together. I check one, and then delete them all at once.

well it makes you look like an old duffer

and what if you're not on MSN while you're on W+B? I think there should be a switch somewhere in User CP, that you click on when you want to receive email notices...

There is. Go to 'User CP', then go to 'Edit Options', and check the 'use email notification by default' to no.

I know that, but perhaps a switch people can be bothered to go to?

Well all my forum notifications go into an inbox labelled Forums.

So I just come online go through all my notifications oldest to newest and then check for new threads on the forum. Then I can get on with whatever I want and I get notified of replies.

Seems a good enough system to me although I do seem to get multiple emails for the same thread

I don't have that problem; I have MSN messenger on at all times when online.

if i want to know whether someone has replied to a certain thread or not i just click on "email notification" in the options bit of the reply window

if i dont want to do that anymore i just go to my "user cp" up at the top right and unsubscribe to that thread

i'm auto subscribed to all threads, but i have a mail filter which puts all the notification mails into one folder, so i can clean them out easily

if it is a thread which will get a lot of replies (e.g a word game), i usually unsubscribe from it

i put my default to no because i get enough spam already. i guess technically its not spam since you choose to get it but still it will fill up your inbox very fast. :jam:
