View Full Version : Weird little things that make you happy...

Kind of like guilty pleasures but not really. Just random things that for some reason make you feel happy. For me it's:
Breakfast Bars (the ones you sit at): There is something strangely satisfying for me about sitting at a breakfast bar, in the morning when it's sunny. It just puts me in a good mood for the day. It's a shame I don't have one myself...
High-Fives: Again, these really put me in a good mood and I have no idea why.
Airports: A lot of people hate them but I find them relaxing. I can just sit and watch the world go by without doing anything else.

Hugs.
I suppose they make everyone happy.
But I really really really love hugs. From almost anyone ;D

Agreed. Nothing better than a hug with someone who wants to hug you, so that it lasts hours and you forget you were on the way to the toilet. I need a hug.
I also like to set my alarm half an hour before I need to get up and then another alarm when I actually need to get up, so I ca actually realise that I'm sleeping and enjoy it.
But why do beds have to feel so comfortable in the morning when you have to get out of them, but not so in the evening when you want to go to sleep?

I like to take the time to lie down pointlessly or sit down for ages just relaxing in a silent room, which mainly happens to be the conservatory when both neighbours kids arent in the garden.
Then I never want to get up.

Sunny days.
The sound of birds.
Lie-ins.
People looking at me with a vague interest in their complexion when talking.
I'm just fuckin' weird like that.
Listening to/ watching really heavy rain in a cold room e.g. my kitchen.
Watching my washing machine and resting my head on the washing machines doors window.

Long car journeys.
Must be a pavlovian reaction as in my youth a long car journey meant we'd soon be seeing cousins and aunts and other family in Scotland. My parents apparently had never heard of a train. :p

4am is a nice time, when the birds start to sing.
(usually a sign to go to bed :\)
Another thing which makes me happy is being with friends, not neccesarely doing anything,
but just chilling out. :)

I like thunder and lightning for no aparent reason, when I'm on my own I like to notice the flashes at the corner of my eye,and then listening to the thunder storm, then everyone talks about it the next day.
But whats more obvious of why I like it,is when were at school or some public place and theres a thunder and lightning storm, cos loads of people jump and gasp ^_^...girls are especialy funny when they do that to =P

The feeling I'm expecting after I finish todays exam (last one, woot!)
Sitting with friends, a beer, sausages, quiet music, in the country. IMO theres no better feeling, it's just so amazingly peaceful.

Also finishing my last exam today :) No more college forever, looking forward to it so much.
Drinking either a glass of wine or a fruit beer with someone who's good conversation.
Men who are good kissers. I enjoy that the most.
When it's been winter for months and you've forgotten what a warm day feels like and the the sun finally comes out some time in March. The first sunny day of the year.

This, but without the pretending to read the paper and normally without the boat. And as they go past, giving them a rating. Even better as a group activity.

When people hug me for no apparent reason.

Being in bed and it's pissing it down outside. I love the sound of rainfall when you're safe indoors :D
Lying on the grass (in summer) with just 2/3 mates. I hate it when you're trying to have some peace and there's a gang of friends messing around

Canned compressed "air" isn't actually air - it's a mixture of other far easier to compress gases, and thus can be abused as a solvent, á la sniffing glue etc.
They've recently added bittering agents in the gas to make it hard to sniff without feeling ill, similar to the agents added to ethanol to make methylated spirits undrinkable.

Hugs are great! thing is,I hardly get a hug from a mate,if I do its rare and is realy short, which dissapoints me since I love long hugs.
Lying on the grass aswell, just thinking about stuff and staring at the clouds go by,but it has to be a nice warm hot day,or just a warm day or it is'nt that great.

On a plus side, Walking my dog is great fun, as my dog is always so playfull :D
Watching a thunderstorm from indoors is brilliant, hell, even being outdoors dancing (drunk is optional) in the torrential downburst is awesome.
I love spiders too, they kill all the annoying bluebottles in my house - I never let a spider get killed if I can avoid it at all.
Eyeing the local women (in the most non-perversive way, mind) at any seaside is also fun, especially, as someone mentioned, as a group activity :D

The moment when the Macgyvered, cereal-packet based circuit board I've just built in 20 minutes springs to life and works as intended.
The inability to leave the room that accompanies just finishing the building of an electric guitar.
Walking in rain in summer in my Goretex clothing. You feel the pitter patter on your head and body; it's like being gently tapped all over but there's no chill, the percussiveness drowns out all other noise. You feel that sense of protection where it's warm and your stomach feels all light and your skin tingles.
My words cannot express it adequately.

Going outside just after it has rained, its all cool and fresh smelling.
Sitting on the bench in my garden listening to the birds, especially impression-bird who does all the car alarms and phone ringtones.
Having the cat sit on my lap and purr.
The other side of the pillow and duvet.
Waking up early and realising its Saturday!

Walking on the beaches,
Looking at the peaches...
do do do,
da da do doo...
Walks by the riverbank on a sunny day, not really weird but it still makes me happy. :D
The smell of tarmac after its rained and the lovely fresh aroma of freshly cut grass :D
Also that beautiful golden green light that occurs when sunshine filters down through the leaves of trees. It just looks so full of life and feels so very calm.
I love summertime :)

Lying on the grass (nice grass, not too muddy or insecty or weedy) in the sun with a cool breeze.
The random conversations that have you in hysterics over nothing and make you smile whenever you remember them.
Dusting. I find something strangely satisfying in cleaning something, especially when you get the ornaments/surfaces with centimeters of dust that comes off in sheets.
Also random DIY/craft projects that never really work but it's fun planning and hoping to end up with something other than £10 less in your purse.

Oh oh oh, just thought of another one, watching LOST with the sound off and dubbing it with what I think they should be saying e.g.
Jack: We're saved!
Locke: How?
Jack: Hurly drank all the water, better start walking if we're going to be home in time for Heroes.
yeah, I do need to get a life

Yes, absolutely love airports, they're so peaceful.
I seem also to find happiness in closure, whatever it be on. Sometimes I find myself sitting alone in my house, I feel happy because I know everything is great.
Also, as I lay in my bed trying to sleep, all I have to do is open the window and get a refreshing breeze to make me happy, and sometimes it's silent outside.

Having a cat rub heads with you, or grab your hand and lick it.
Getting just to the point of sleep where you start snoring but are still aware of it.
Being encased in a dark, cosy den, of sorts, even if it's just a duvet, as long as there are people in the house or I wouldn't bother. I'm fairly solitary at times, but I go stir crazy if I'm alone for a few days; simply having people in an audible proximity is perfect for me.

The sky, and the smells before and after an incredibly heavy storm. I'd go nuts if I couldn't see the sky, and I hate having to work in room with no natural light.
Unless it's very cloudy (like stormy), so dark it's like nighttime at 2:00 in the afternoon, in which case 100W anglepoise lamp is best.

I also get a childish pleasure out of doing that, and then either the parent catching the child sticking their tongue out at you and scolding them, or them complaining to the parent, and the parent looking at you and thinking "they wouldn't, that's silly" and scolding the child, but in both cases I love the little apologetic look the parent gives you.
Obviously when I say scolded I mean scolded very lightly, but sometimes it's nice to feel that childish pleasure in a small victory.
