I've got an interesting dilemma; I'm trying to make PSX backups and keep my 'we don't make those anymore' PSX discs in storage. (Yes I do still like to play Silent hill and Tekken 3 :) ).

The proviso is that you have to read and write them at the lowest speed that you can. 1x ideally. Newer CD/DVD drives can't read/write that slow. (the 24x drive that I have reads and writes at 8x minimum).

As such if anyone has a pretty old, working CD burner that they're interested in selling/throwing out contact me via PM or whatever and name your price. :)

Cheers all.

You don't need to write them at 1x. The newer recorders will burn as good at there lowest speed as the old one's do at 1x.

I've tried a bunch of times using a few different programs.

The PSOne is in really good condition, the lens has been cleaned also. Despite this and even though I've adjusted the lens power FMV still skips.

Turn the playstation upside down. That used to work for me.

Is the PSX Chipped? our one played backups perfectly fine with a chip, and its pretty hammered, luckily i made them as i have no idea where the originals are. (i dont really want to know, found the remains of one a while ago)

Yep, chipped and fully working PSOne. Not prone to FMV skipping like the older versions from what I've read (although adjusting the laser gave slightly better results).

The old ones had plastic assemblies for the laser mount which wore over time and changed the distance between the laser and the surface of the disc.

The disc loads intermitently (FF7), load times are very slow and FMV skips. It leaves a bit of a sour taste in your mouth when you see it compared to the original.

The media I'm using (tried a few different brands) is gold as suggested by more than a few guides.

So that's why Soul Blade wouldn't work! :(
