Hello there, I need some help programming a new key for my car.
I got it cut today from the master key and the guy that cut it for me told me to turn the old key until the lights come on on the dash, wait for them to turn off and then do the same with the new key and it should work, however it does not. Does anyone know how to get it working? It's for a 1996 Ford Fiesta.

Did you get it cut by a ford dealer?
When I got the new key made for my vauxhall, I took it down there and the guy plugged his little computer into a plug under the dash in the footwell, stuck the key in and played around with the car's computer.
The whole point of the computer recognising the key is so that people have to take it to a dealer for the new key to work. It stops people cutting random spares from your keys and making off with your car. If the key was programmed by putting it in the car, there'd be no point in programming them.

It cost me £20 from timpsons. A bit steep but it's the only key cutting place I know of.
