He really isn't. I really like some of the books, he has great characters and decent stories, but his writing style is horrible. It's lazy and overblown and slightly pompous.

The amount of times I have read the exact same joke in more than 2 or three of his books is, quite frankly, irritating. Compared to actual good writers, being funny just isn't enough. Actually I don't even find him that funny anymore.

It's pretty hard to write over 30 books and not have the same thing crop up in more than one, especially if it's a funny thing that sticks in your mind.

I've got a signed Wintersmith too, not personalised though as I couldn't make the signing. I'm running out of shelf space for them all now. :p
