A few months ago some bastard broke into my house, stole some keys on my laptop keyboard and replaced them with ones that don't work.

That's the jazzy version of the story.

Affected keys are Tilde, Five, Six, Left Control, Minus/Underscore and Delete. Most of which are important to the average computer user who plays a lot of Thief II.

I'm pissed off with clipboard functions not working, I'm pissed off with not being able to put my weapons away, I'm pissed off that I can't type underscores in config files, I'm pissed off that I have to rightclick to delete files, I'm pissed off that I couldn't put a hyphen just then, and I'm pissed off because my cat has just been hit by a car. The last one you can't solve, but the others you can help.

Internet help squadron agogo.

Are the keys (the actual buttons themselves, not the covers with the characters on them) stuck down? You can check by wether the buttons press up/down as much as the others.

If this is the case (buttons are stuck) I would prescribe my old friend mister flathead screwdriver, assuming the thing is no longer under warranty.

Failing that, hold the keyboard upsidedown over your head and give it a shake. joking

I've taken the covers off the relevant keys, and tried pressing down on the little rubber nipple thing, to no avail. Comparing with a functional adjacent key yields no difference in visual appearance or physical operation, except that the key will not register a press.

If anyone would like, or care, for my laptop make, it's the AMD variant of the HP ze4410ea.

Laptop make and model.

Esq: I assume it's a joke as he references Thief...

See what happens when I post at 1am? ;)

No sign of replacement keyboards on ebay.co.uk or .com.

No warranty?
