Far too many good bands left out of that poll. But personally, I'd vouch for Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Sabbath, the Roses or any classic stuff like that. Jimmy Eat World and co are not rock. A guitar does not simply mean rock music. Emo lyrics definitely do not. :(

I was about to vote for the Peppers, being my favourite band and all, but decided not to as I don't consider them to be the greatest 'rock band'. They might well be the greatest funk/rock band there is.

Yeah Rage are the best rock band, but I wouldn't say they're rock. It's a mix of metal, rapcore, and funk. Similar to the Chilis, who are also a great band, but Rage are much better.

It's called "stating a preference". You can listen to something and not like it, and by that, you don't have to agree they are the best at all.

Fast beat, brilliant guitars, and a manly vocalist.

The only difference I can think of is the theme of the songs and the fact that most Trash metal bands use two bass drums. or atleast two pedals.

And you think that bands with the inability to play affects their ability to get famous? No. A large majority of the time I turn on the radio and consider the musicians to be inadequate. But they are on the radio, and getting paid too. My favourite bands are rarely played on the radio at all, if ever.

Actually being able to play their instruments? Wasn't the punk movement based entirely on the idea that you shouldn't have to in order to make music? Hell, the noise genre rejects the dandyism of instruments altogether and takes delight in playing them (apparently) terribly. Same with being able to sing.

Writing good songs falls entirely under what he actually said; the idea of 'good' is completely subjective.

There are no 'good' or 'bad' bands - there are just bands that you don't like, and your reasons for disliking them. Maybe people agree with you, maybe they don't - doesn't make the band inherently bad for it.
