The basic premise of this thread is that my laptop makes no sound, apart from a crappy beep whenever anything happens (error messages, turning volume up/down). I can't get sound through Media Player, web pages...anything.
There's a slight story behind this, so here goes: Sometimes when my laptop started up, it wouldn't play sounds at all, so I had to restart it and it was fine. Couple of days ago, I tried to do something about it (i.e. search for an updated driver - which I did through Hardware update thingy). It found a new driver, but while it was being installed, my laptop, being the perfect thing that it is, overheated and turned itself off.
When I turned it back on, there was no sound. Restarted. No sound. Went back to the Hardware properties and searched for a new driver, but it informs me that I have the most up to date driver. If I try to rollback the driver, it tells me I don't have anything to roll back to.
It all appears to be working properly...but then this is Windows.
Now, I hope that little story there was to your liking. If it is, please make payments to the "Get Esquilax a decent new laptop fund". Alternatively, provide your help. :)
