I am a self confessed geek. I like sci-fi and videogames, I possess an encyclopaedic knowledge of subjects I will never need to know, I talk on the internet a lot... and one thing I have noticed about geeks is the way they (we) can take nuggets of wisdom from movies and books and apply them to real life. We do this without the least bit of thought to how the lucky recipient of our distilled wisdom will react, and I think that it is brilliant.
How many times, when someone says they will try something have we thought, if not said, Yoda's fine peice of advice from Empire: No! Do! Or do not! There is no try...
Or when discussing capital punishment someone has said "Well [murderers/paedophiles/terrorists/rapists] deserve to die" and you have replied with what you hope is a Gandalf-esque twinkle in your eye "Yes and there are many who die and deserve life - can you give it to them?".
So this topic is an accolade to geeks, may they live long and prosper!

hehe, but remember I have been learning and taking pictures 'seriously' for like 3 years now ;)
It takes a long time to learn the basics and such, then the rest is just messing around, and seeing what works and what doesn't :)

true...i could never handle the putting the film onto the plastic reel with my hands in a black bag bit, it would always fall off
maybe my teacher just had a very tricky way of doing it

What part of the process was that for? ;D

i dont quite remember...i think it was after taking the film out of the camera & putting it onto a white reel so that i could put it in the projecting thing
i might be completely making that up & lack the language to properly describe it!

Ah, you mean when processing the film?
Didn't you just have a dark room you could do that in? :)

ooh just had a flashback! it was one of the bits i had to do before hanging up the strips of negatives, after putting them it the chemicals
that probably doesnt help any more than the first description
there was a dark room but for some reason we didnt get to do that bit in there. i think they were just trying to make it hard for us!

*scratches head*
I aint quite sure what you're talking about ;)
You stick your film on the reel in the dark, then put it in the developer, then the stopper, then the fixer. After that you wash it in water, in daylight. Then you put it in a substance a bit like washing up liquid, before hanging them up in the dryer :)
We have a darkroom for doing all that in though  Sounds like they were awkward with you! Tight wads :P

in my opinion, a geek is anyone of at least slightly-above-average intelligence who has not bought into what pop culture wants to sell you.
hmmm that coveres too many people. I will try to define it again
geek: anyone who is at least slightly above average intelligence who has not bought into what pop culture wants to sell you and has seen star trek at least once and thought it was pretty neat.
i am a semi-geek btw.

Above average intelligence? Hell yes
Pop culture? Fuck it
Star Trek? Maybe not, I never really liked Star Trek. I do, however like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, AND have a working knowledge of computer programming. If that's not a geek then what is??????

If you can tell me three reasons why Star Trek is not realistic then I will believe you have geek status!

Well done, you may join our band of geeks... first you must wear the mighty stormtrooper helmet of Thor... then repeat after me:
The force... wil be with me... always!
