View Full Version : Premiership 2007/08 Competiton
ZOIDBERG

The new season is less than 3 weeks away, so as always I thought I'd do a competiton to go with it. This one's simple enough (at last! :D), as all you need to do is predict the season's final table. You may need the teams:
Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham, Blackburn, Bolton, Chelsea, Derby, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Middlesbrough. Newcastle, Portsmouth, Reading, Sunderland, Tottenham, West Ham and Wigan.
Then, all you'll need to do is post them here in an order, preferably numbered 1 to 20. The scoring is easy: for each team, you get 5 points for the right position, 4 for one away, 3 for two away, 2 for three away and 1 for four away. See, that even adds up to exactly 100. I'll update the league table each weekend (after the Sunday games) along with how the teams are doing, and that's about it.
Number of players: 23 (VenomG123 has withdrawn)
Predicted top 3: streety Luna OKO

Latest league table (2nd September)
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/9423/sep2oh7.png (http://imageshack.us)
Key: (for score and rank) T - this week, L - last week, +/- - difference, B - best, W - worst; (for teams at top) P - perfect teams (i.e. all five points), S - scoring teams; (at bottom) T - total points scored from this team, P - 5s scored from this team

Damn you Zoidberg, I was gonna do what I did last year and give a summary over each team :(
I don't see a problem with doing it again tbh; you could expand on your table as usual, you just might not get quite as many people posting their tables in your thread if I got in first with a predictions thread that just does the table.
Go for it, I say :)

2 out of 260 wrong isn't too bad though. It didn't make any difference to my predictions (who should come 1st/2nd/3rd as well as all the rest, although you did drop a few points in the scores that calculate who comes where).
But that's all very irrelevant, and I'll just update that image.

The season starts tomorrow \o/
League table updated, and the top three stay the same. I am going to be away for the first weekend of the season tomorrow, but I'll be back by next Sunday (which is when I'll be doing league tables anyway unless no-one plays on the Sunday); I'll probably do this week's scores then as well as next week's just to show how everybody does, since the table changes a lot over the first few weeks.
Entry will of course close tomorrow, so get your table in quick (or edit the one you already have) if you need to before 12PM. Enjoy the games! :D

Fair enough, I don't recall explaining it in any detail.
As I add the predictions, I've also been making a grid (I'll post it next week, when I'm here and it's guaranteed to be final) that works out how many points each prson would score if another were to get the table spot on and score 100 points (if you got the table right, I'd score 63, for example). It's only a rough guide to how good your table is, but I've then added together all the "scores" that people get (that's a 63 for me and a 63 for you then) and then see how they compare. OKO is currently leading with an average of 61.8 points - which is 1,235 in total - with you in second with an average of 61.5, which is 1,230 in total.
No idea how useful it'll be, we'll just have to wait and see on that one :)

This is probably going to take a while. I'll post the results as a big table (similar to the one on the first post) with the number of points you earned from each team and things like that, but I may as well ask which you'd prefer: the teams across the top in alphabetical order (Arsenal and Villa to West Ham and Wigan), or the numbers 1-20 in order? Either way, I'll match the two up (by putting the other just below) but I thought I'd ask it as it'll take a while to do. Thanks!
Oh, and does anyone want the full list of where all players are predicted to finish? The top 3 are on the first post, but everyone's in the list.

I'm beginning to think there could be a lot of joint positions with this. How about the stats on the right work like goal difference (5-point teams - P) and then like goals scored (teams that scored points - S) if needed? Just a thought, since there were 5 people who were 7th last week...

I'll stick the key on the first post. But, from left to right:
Rank is pretty obvious - your rank, and then a green up arrow if you've gone up since last week, a red down arrow if you've gone down and a grey sidewards one if you're in the same position.
Huge middle bit - the table is at the top (the teams are in alphabetical order not in table order, but I can change that if you like) and then the numbers in the middle just show how many points you've scored from those teams.
These are added up at the bottom, so that only really shows how well you've guessed the teams' performance. The T is how many points we've earned altogether from the teams, and the P is the number of people who got all 5 points from the teams.
Score and rank have the same format - T is this week's score and rank, L is last week's, +/- is the difference between the two, B is your best score/rank and W is your worst.
The teams - P is the number of perfect temas (5s) you have, which is going to be used to work out who is above who i the event of a tie (like goal difference really), and S is the number of teams you scored points with (like goals scored - a second tie-breaker if you have the same number of points and 5s as someone else).
I'll change how the table looks/works as the season goes on if requested, since it does look a little confusing.

Oh right, I get it now. So say, Chelsea go top next week I'll get so many points for guessing that right, right?

I'll try and download it then send the pic to someone, but if I can't, I may have to do the whole table again tomorrow... positions and points for now:

Zoidy, don't mean to burst your bubble, but you might wanna forget about tables untill around game 10-12. The table will be insanely unstable untill then and it all seems like alot of work every week!
Nice jump for me though. Last to 6th :p
