LAN parties are very, very, very fun. You get to do the two most favorite things(except, well maybe a little, sex): hang with friends and play video games. But is it worth it?
Keep these in mind:
Bad Connections?
Faulty Equipment?
Game Available to all?
Moving Shit Around?
Loss of Sleep?
Whiney Bitches?
Computer Retards?

you may want to invest in some sort of firewall...
or unplug the HDD with any personal stuff on at a LAN of that size...

taken my precausions
disabled all sharing, except for the music folders, and those are password protected
renamed the admin account and passworded it
made a new admin account with a password and no rights at all
the script kiddies can't be bothered to do anything to you if they have to do any work for it...
they usually target the ones who don't password or remove the admin account...

I'm at a LAN party right now, but its a smaller 6 person afair at a m8's house. Of course, the advantage is its very local, and i dont need much setting up because i know my m8s arent going to do any (lasting) damage to my machine :P
Guess what!! Im at the same LAN party!!! In fact, its at my house! Woo!
Also evilone, who says im not going to do anything bad to your computer hehehehe!!

Argh Dødens, just realised its a web cam updating thingy. Was thinking I was losing my mind just then looking at it.
I've been wanting to go to a LAN party for a while now, something I've wanted to do. I think me and a couple others at Uni are going to go to one as a massive group.

i have an uber bright light next to my PC all the time... it stops my mouse from falling down the back of my desk and help me to see the keys on my keyboard

1 ian, not much of a gamer but more than most
2 pete, ians younger bro'
3 alex, uber gamer
4 me, another alex
This'll sound stupid, but whats a LAN party? I've got a lan(but only 3 people on it) can I have a party with my Mum and Dad's computers with cake and party hats and fun? I hope so!

heh
A LAN party is when a bunch of people go and play games together over a LAN, normally over the course of two days or something, and bringing their own pcs. Just get a few mates to bring PCs, plug em in and get gaming.

ive only been to one lan party, that was last july, me and a mate had to lug our machines and a monitor plus clothes up from bedfordshire to manchester via train! damn that was a chore, but hell it was worth it! we called it 'the geekend' ( a geeky weekend) but we managed to stretch it out for a week which was good, and there was 8 of us in total in one little room, it got a little cramped lol
we have another one in a month or 2 called 'lantastic' which is a bit closer to home, its gonna be held in a new double garage and we'll have a live broadcast up 24-7! cant wait!
if you want to see it for some particular reason check out my website for details!
not tryin to advertise or nothin lol but its www.utterwhack.co.uk!

And if you don't have friends you can set up a AI bot on one of the computers and game with that.

Sometimes you only need one other person to have a decent LAN. Back when I was around 12-13, one of my friends used to bring his PC over every now and again, we'd link them up with a serial link cable (not recommended :D) and play Doom. These days we've progressed to having about 6-8 people and are playing all sorts of stuff, but start out with 2 if you can and build from there.
