Here are the Premiership fixtures for this weekend (not another football thread I hear you cry. But this one's fun for all the family!)

Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to predict the scores in each match. If you correctly guess the result, you get a point. If you also get the exact scores correct, you get an additional 2 points.

Each week there will be ten games (Premiership, but others if numbers need to be made up). You will predict to get the most points. Whoever gets the most points in one week during the whole season will be crowned Premiership prediciton King (or Queen, or any other type of royalty they wish). This means anyone can enter at any point during the season, and have a chance to win.

For example if I predict Chelsea to beat Arsenal 2-1, but they only win 1-0, I get one point. If they win 2-1 I get 3. If they lose or it's a draw I get nothing. The deadline for entries is noon on Saturday, and any entries added or edited after this will be ignored.

How long will this run for? It should be a few weeks so you get enough replies for the thread to earn some money for the prize.

seaempty
17-02-2004, 03:49 PM
I was going to do it for a week to see what the interest was. If there's lots it can go for longer. I guess the prize money will get bigger as the comp goes on, until it reaches a limit? Hell I've got nearly 300 rupies to contribute!

Sorry about the dealy - had no access to a computer all weekend.

I make it that Scrambled and Work? are the winners with a score of 7 points. I'm going to be generous and put up a prize fund of 50 rupies - 25 each to the winners.

If there's enough interest I'll run one for this weekend. Just let me know.

Oh and let me know if I'm mucked up the points - tis early on a monday morning!

Just a suggestion, but why don't you give a small prize to each week's winner (~20 rupies) , but keep the overall league running and award the winner at the end of the season with something more substantial?

seaempty
23-02-2004, 02:29 PM
I only offered a bumper prizethis month, cos I didn't think there would be enough interest to run a second. But if there are willing applicants, I'll glady run a continuing comp. 20 rupies sounds like an ideal amount!

Here are the games for this weekend. Good luck to all who enter!

Arsenal v Charlton
Blackburn v Southampton
Everton v Aston Villa
Fulham v Man Utd
Leicester City v Wolves
Man City v Chelsea
Leeds United v Liverpool
Portsmouth v Newcastle

I haven't included Birmingham's game which is next wednesday. That's going to be difficult to include

The problem with that is that people can't join the league every week. It would have to be the same people entering every week for the overall league. A prize of 20 rupies is great but the person running it needs to get something out of it. Maybe an entry fee?

I am more than happy to play every week. I used to run a prediction league, with first scorer etc.

I don't quite know what you mean. You only get rupies if you win the competition for the week i.e. get the most points. You don't get a rupie for each point you get.

Is that what you mean?

Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to predict the scores in each match. If you correctly guess the result, you get a point. If you also get the exact scores correct, you get an additional 2 points. The person with the highest score wins rupies

I might make a big betting thread and use my rupies for a reason - give the odds that Will Hill does on the net.
(i.e. - 3to1 - bet 10 rupies, win, get a return of 30)

What does anyone think?

AngryPaul, I thought about making a betting thread. Where people can issue challenges to each other. Oh and stop triple posting!!!

Streety's is a good idea, but you rely on someone wanting to take you up on the bet. AngryP being the bookie is better, cos he has to take you up on it. Though I'm not sure whether condoning gambling is a good thing! And what if the odds were 7/4 etc. Would you round up? So many questions! Would it stretch to the gee gees? ;)

Oh yeah and that too of course, but if you lost, I would keepo it and put it towards the 'Betting Bank' for future winners

So what do you think I should do it?

[edit] the way I would do it is to offer a bet (eg - the biggest footy game/sporting event in the week and then take the bets, and then pay out to the winners after the result :D

Chelsea v Fulham:
Chelsea 2/5
Draw 11/5
Fulham 6/1

Bet on Fulham to win (£10), they win, you get £60 plus your original £10 back - If they lost you get nowt.

Jesus... I am crap at this game! I had an idea last night. Maybe we could have a betting prediction league??? People would predict as normal but bet whatever amount they want. If they win the week of predictions then their money gets quadroupled. You can choose not bet but then you don't win any money.

What do you think? Too many betting threads :D

I would prefer to keep this thread as a test of skill with no gmabling involved - more of a competition. And also you would need the finances to support such a venture, and I ain't got that! I wouldn't be against teh creation of another thread, but then you'd have two similar threads. Perhaps AngryP can offer odds in his betting thread, taking in the form of the competitors involved. I might be upping the prize fund in the future, and offering second, and third place prizes?

Hahaha
Someone has a very large chip on their shoulder.
Man City's defense is shocking! They are all over the place. They play very attack minded because they know that the odds are that they will let in a goal. You're a very similar team to Spurs. If you win a game then it's usually 2-1, 3-2, or 4-3.

It is interesting that you think I always go against Man City. I just take each week as it comes and try to predict what I think will happen. That's probably why I am doing so poorly.

Here are the Man City games that I have predicted...
Bolton 1-0 Man City real score Bolton 1-3 Man City
Man City 1-3 Chelsea real score Man City 0-1 Chelsea
Man City 0-1 Man Utd real score Man City 4-1 Man Utd
Leeds 1-1 Man City real score Leeds 2-1 Man City*
Man City 1-0 Fulham real score Man City 0-0 Fulham
Aston Villa 2-1 Man City real score Aston Villa 1-1 Man City

*Lucky you didn't take that bet that I challenged you with.

As a special bonus game this week (and maybe every week) you have the chance to win an extra 5 rupies!

Every Friday on the BBC Website, Mark Lawrence predicts the scores for the weekend. I will post his predictions, and if you beat the now non-moustachioed pundit, you will win 5 rupies. That's right, anyone who beats his score wins 5 rupies.

His predictions can be found here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/3628757.stm) and are:

IF we win tommorow, then we still have to beat Birmingham to go on to the last day against newcastle.

Luckily, newcastle have the worst away record in the premiership, with only 2 wins all season.

Now the fixtures have been decided, the competition will start up again very soon.

New season, new prizes.

The scoring stays the same (see the first post for details) but the prize has been increased from 20 woopies to a staggering 50 woopies. If you beat Lawro's predicitions, you will get 10 woopies, instead of the measley 5 originally offered.

Now rupies are no more, this competition will now simply be a chance to beat your peers!

I propose to carry on running it in the same fashion, but the idea will be to get the highest score in a week.

Each week there will be ten games (Premiership, but others if numbers need to be made up). You will predict to get the most points. Whoever gets the most points in one week druing the whole season will be crowned Premiership prediciton King (or Queen, or any other type of royalty they wish). This means anyone can enter at any point during the season, and have a chance to win.

I hope this will work out.

The other option is to run it as Micky does in the Caption Competition, with having monthly series, with the person with the most points during the month winning something (though I have no idea what!)

What does everyone think?

or

You predict the scores and get points. You can then bet those points on other areas of the game (ie first goalscorer) and win/lose points according to the odds. Whoever has the most points wins!

eg On the first week's predictions you get 10 points. You make your precitions for the matches as usual, but you can also use the points you've accumulated to bet perhaps in association with the betting shop? If you are sucessful, you win those points?

Or is that too complicated?

streety
13-07-2004, 02:15 PM
The first idea sounds the best. That way new people can enter every week and if you miss a week it's no biggy. If you win a week then you could get a point and then go in the hall of fame. The whole betting thing is too complicated and it will put people off.

Seconded.
What is the point of moving this competition to another forum?
If you are that interested in betting there are casino's and betting shops online where you can use play money.
I was said to see the betting go but it went for a reason.
