I don't know. Ever since I watched the Last Episode of Charlie Brookers Screenwipe, I can't get over the fakeness of it all. Oh look the engine doesn't work. We get to piss Italian people off. Lol etc. Their routes have to be preplanned, they don#t just flit round Europe and just happen upon camera crews on nearby hills to film down on them.

Not because of smoking indoor, but smoking in workplace.
The audience is told on filming trips that it is private property and therefore they can smoke all they like.
Whether this is true or not, I don't know. There's a pretty obvious argument that it is private property.
Then again, in England and Wales I believe there is a loophole in the smoking ban for actors on film or stage who need to smoke as part of the plot...

That P50 section was brilliant :)
I might be alone here but their "races" just piss me off most of the time, the criteria are so arbitrary that the result is meaningless. I guess that's not a hugely controversial statement and it's just an excuse to feature an interesting car in unusual circumstances, but it still kind of irritates me. Not to mention how obviously staged everything is, but that's the start of a whole other lists of irritation.
Still, it's the only thing I watch on British TV so I can't slag it off too much.

I think Hammond's win made that episode (it's about time Clarkson didn't win something, or even try to make it look like he won), combined with him and Clarkson realising they'd ruined it because the car didn't win. Nah, he over-egged the thing and it fell apart whenever he got in. If he was experienced at that sort of racing he would have been a bit more steady. I'm with him being an F1 driver, given that the first Stig was one. Kovaleinen? Mansell? Hill? Brundle? Needell (I'd laugh)?

I believe that (medium size spoiler) on very special occasions it is someone different. For example, during the F1 test it was in fact Kovalailen (sp?) in the car, and it was the owner of the Maserati MC12 driving it, as it was brand new.
And...(mega spoiler that really don't read if you want to keep the Stig mystery going) a lot of people believe the Stig is Ben Collins. For one, if you read the official pdf from the Richard Hammond crash enquiry, it quotes Ben Collins as being a 'high speed driving consultant employed by the BBC'. There are other small clues that are rather dull and not worth posting.

I think the reason that they keep it so secret is that it means absolutely squat to anyone who isn't a motorsport fan.
I mean, I'm a harcore motorsport fanatic, and even I barely know who....that guy is.

On a slightly related note, they used a couple of songs used on the MotorStorm soundtrack for the piece on the three saloons. But the Halo music is epic so your point is more valid. It was a fantastic episode though, they were using the last of their budget but it worked to great effect, just to send the series off.
