New BB in January 2008

http://www.channel4.com/bigbrother/news/newsstory.jsp?id=24561

Many celebrities have caused chaos ON Big Brother, but in January 2008 - for the first time ever - a rogues gallery of stars, slebs and boffins will be seizing control to actually BECOME Big Brother.

From dictating tasks to interrogating inmates and controlling nominations the great, good and ghastly will be ripping up the rule book, holding rewards to ransom and generally creating mayhem alongside the REAL Big Brother in 'Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack.'

Their willing hostages? A houseful of Britain's most exceptional and extraordinary 18 to 21 year olds.

Over the next few weeks Big Brother will be combing the UK's hottest young artists, athletes, scientists, musicians, entrepreneurs, fashion gurus and dons in every other field to assemble a cast of pure prodigies.
I think the gist of it is thick people telling smart people what to do

Why don't they just tell us they're giving up on BB? PLEASE CHANNEL 4, DO IT.

Seriously, nobody fucking cares anymore.

This new twist won't make any differance. The last series of big brother was boring, this series will be to.

Is it just two weeks like the other celebrity ones normally are?

it's still one of the biggest shows in terms of ratings.
dropping BB would be really dumb, from channel 4's point of view.

It isn't still one of the biggest shows, the last one proved that. It pulled in the worst ratings ever, and if C4 know what's best, they'll stop it before it dies on its feet.

let's ban every show that thomp doesn't like!! yeah!!

they still get millions of views every year, which sort of implies that millions of people enjoy it and it is therefore a good idea on channel 4's part to keep it going

if you really don't like it, it's actually possible to not watch it y'know

That doesn't exactly block BB from your lives, because it's everywhere. It totally dominates the Daily Star, it's usually on the news, it's on the radio, and on virtually ANY channel you go on, their is at least ONE mention of BB.

I like regular BB, but I can't stand any tv show involving "celebrities" so as usual, I'll be giving this a miss.

The Daily Star is full of shit even when Big Brother isn't on.

That being said, this sounds like a weekly task stretched out to a whole series.

Midget - ordinarily I would agree with you, but in the case of big brother, I don't for several reasons.

First and foremost is the fact that while Big Brother is running, it totally dominates the channel 4 and e4 schedules. It's close to being wall to wall big brother on e4 during it's "on" season. It's not that I miss E4 music that much, or even the repeats of scrubs, it's the fact that what kind of vacuous tosser actually watches Live Big Brother at 11pm? Not to mention the fact that they have two "spin off" shows - Little Brother and Big Mouth, that essentially perform the same function with varying degrees of irritation on the viewers behalf as bestowed by the presenter.

Secondly, of course, is the fact that it is tedious, vacuous programming, which is a shame because Channel 4 typically has a reputation for being cutting edge, showing what other channels won't and generally being a bit near the knuckle. How is it that in 20 years they got from media furore over screening Tony Harrison's poem "v." to media furore over Jade Goodie being a massive cow?

Thirdly, and probably finally as I have to get to bed, is the fact that they have turned what started as a genuinely interesting social experiment into a freakshow and a phone-line farm for cash. It links in with point two, I suppose, but it's just representative of everything I hate about television, with no redeeming features.

So yeah, essentially it should be taken off the air because it's shit, that's about all there is to it. The fact people still watch it says more about their own vapidity than the show itself.

The total 24 hour coverage if you ask me, is something left over from the original concept of the show. Since the original concept has gone right out the fucking window, I'm not sure why they bother anymore. Or why they don't just stick it on a red button service, e4 survives perfectly without it the rest of the year.

I'd put a bet on them going for the most obvious stereotype of intelligent people (IE-toffs and snobs) too. Bound to happen.

well i can agree with that, the 24 hour feed, big mouth and little brother are completely unnecessary and take up space that could be filled by decent programs

but apart from that you can still choose not to watch it and there are still plenty of people who enjoy it

and describing those people as "vapid" isn't exactly fair... if you read the big brother thread a while ago while it was still running, it got a fair amount of posts from decent forumites (tweekish, bewildebeast, terrorbite, moog, dibbie, che, me :p)

(and qwerty, if you actually read the daily star, you can't exactly complain about big brother being crap :p)

(and thomp, sorry if that sounded overly-sarcastic, i wasn't trying to offend you man, was just trying to make a point)
