I would like to propose a tutorial section for this forum as I like helping out and such. Techy Bollocks is ok for that stuff but it would be better if we had a seperate forum section especially for the peoples to share their knowlege and to find out new things. Anyone with me?

Specifically on what?
Easy way is to just stick [Tut] or [Tutorial] or [HowTo] in front of the thread title, thats how a lot of forums do it.
Then just stick it in the right category.

I don't see the point? It's not like this is a techy forum...just has a tech section to ask for help in

Its just that many people post the same question over and over again, the techy section wouldn't be so clogged up if we had a tut section.

If you want, feel free to make some tutorial posts and I'll stick them in the Techy forums :)

Just PM me with a link to the posts.

Come to think of it - it could be a subforum of techy - though that's if all tutorials are going to be tech related.

Yeah, techy tuts could become a subforum, good name too.

Is it just for Weebls questions or anything?

Like how to use Worldbuilder on Command and Conquer 3! Ahhhh

More like how to set up a router and stuff, i would imagine.

I like the idea of a forum for sharing advice, although a lot of General Pap is that.

a heavily moderated (ie tutorials only) subforum forum/sticky in tech blox would be good methinks.

It sounds like a good idea. A few examples maybe? Just to get people to understand what's involved, just to illustrate it.

I honestly don't see the point. Niche forums on here always die. Even music is about as fast as treacle nowadays. The more you split these things up the more ridiculously boring and more difficult it becomes to find threads you actually want to read through. Just keep it in whatever forum it is most appropriate to.

Hey guys I want to make a watercolor paints forum. The Fanart and Art Attack!! forums are ok and such but I think it would be better if we had a seperate forum specifically for people to share their watercolor paints knowledge and learn new things.

Who's with me? Oh no one. Because it's a dumb idea. :)

Oh, wait, what?

I kind of agree with the many subforums thing.

When was the last time someone posted in tech reviews?*

Best to just encourage people to use the force search a bit more.

Also, I'm not sure that there is a massive amount of same questions being asked in techy?

But, y'know, good that you are thinking about how the forum can be improved and shit.

This post is only made of one line paragraphs.

Its a kind of stream of consciousness thing I think.

Who knows.

*that would be a month ago - but only 5 posts in the last year!

Surely stream of consciousness would be one long paragraph with no full stops, Ulysses style?

Why, ZekeyLizard must you crap on everything I do. This being a crap idea is your opinion, some members are with me on this so if you have nothing remotly helpful in any way to say, dont post at all. Many Forums I have been with have a tutorials subforum and it has worked out fine

as tactless as he is, he's probably right though. there was a request put in for a cookery sub-forum some time ago following the emergence of a recipe exchange thread. however, despite the huge amount of initial interest in such a sub-forum, that thread soon died, and that's what would have happened to the whole cookery forum. it was a bit of a fad and that was it.

I wasn't aware that DCEmu sucked

and yes, I am now aware that his probably wont take off but all I wanted to do was help to improve the forum. I consider the matter closed.

Tutorial Forum/Subforum - Not going to happen (going by whats been said here)

That forum you linked to only has like, 10 threads in the section :/
I don't see techy getting the copious numbers of posts you seem to think it does, so where's the problem?

I realise that this may be a slightly pointless thread but I was just trying to help the forums and I dont take kindly to sarcastic imitations of my posts in reply.

Destrukto helped me out though, I'll make some more tuts.

I know this is completely unrelated but this thread is pretty much finished and if I don't mention it I'm likely to forget about it.

I had another suggestion for the forum, which I thought of a long time ago. It might actually be in place now, but it'd be hard to find that out for anyone who's already joined. Lately I think some people have been just posting anything and anywhere to get the 15 posts they need to post links. I know the reasons for the 15-post rule, and in a way it's a good idea, BUT I think there is a better alternative. Like I said, we might already have it so apologies if we do.

You know those little images you get on some sites with letters and numbers on strange backgrounds, or spread around the picture, or whatever they do with them? If we had one of those that people had to type in when they register we might not get very many bots. But this isn't really my thing so I'm not sure if it's a good suggestion or not.

The forum already has a CAPTCHA, but some spambots have either cracked the code, can read them or are human and can slip through the net that way ;/

There are mods available to enhance it on vbulletin.org, but they're generally for the latest version of vbull.
