Not Bioware! But this doesn't really affect my chances of getting a Kotor 3, But now they'll be publishing Mass effect (and its two sequels) Spore and The future Sims games.

Thats a lot of pressure right?

the funny thing is, they'll only be buying the name.
most of the smart developers will probably leave after the merge.
(consequently, mass effect might be shit)

I doubt it considering it's out in November, I don't think people leaving would change the game at this late point.

I also don't think them being bought by EA is that terrible, I don't see the problem with EA.

Because they taint everything they touch. Alright, not everything, but take Timesplitters 3. A criticism was that it lost a little bit of the magic the previous games had, as a result of being EA-ised.

um

am i the only one who thinks that EA buying these companies isnt bad? EA have deep pockets and they're constantly trying to shed their image as 'EA Sports, the company that puts out five games a month' and be taken seriously as a publisher. hell, they're publishing The Simpsons Game which looks great.

i'm not worried tbh.

In fairness, I do think EA are trying to shake the lack of inventiveness and corporate monstrosity tag that's plagued it for a few years now. Take titles like skate. Army of Two, and Hellgate: London, and it's not the usual tosh you see from EA, like Medal of Honor: How Long Can We Make The War Last? and Need for Speed: Yeah Bruv, My Car's Been Lowered 12mm And My Paint Job Looks Like You Blind Grandma Did It 2009.

As much as i'm not best pleased with EA's practices over the past few years, I'm hoping that this acquisition comes at a very good time creatively for BioWare and Pandemic.

I don't like EA because they will make a game and then won't maintain it, or they will mess with gameplay in patches on rare occasions.
Examples of not maintaining games which have bugs is 1/2 their products.
An example of messing with gameplay is C&C3 patches, which seem to alter the price of things, remove features and cause you to change strategy every time you update. They are removing tactics because people are complaining about them.

i'm not worried to be honest (as i always normally skate around the subject, mostly i plain lie).Deep pockets is great, but it's EA! I'd be happy if 2k(or take two, I can't remember which one is which way round) took over because they have a habit of making some good games, EA has the midas touch, only instead of gold it changes things into disappointment.

[edit] I will however mention that I'm looking forward to army of two.

That's a great criticism, the gameplay was fine and I found it as fun and funny as the first two, saying it lost 'magic' doesn't really mean much.

See if it was me? I'd let the companies run themselves like usual, same name etc. and just take a slice of the profits..

EA always had Spore in it's hands, Spore was never not an EA game. The fact that EA bought Maxis in 1997 and that Will Wright/Maxis have been developing Spore under EA ownership should maybe be a lesson on why freaking out about EA buying developers isn't always reasonable.

I've got no idea about the BioWare/Pandemic acquisition, but it doesn't seem worth moaning about it until those studios actually start making bad games. Plenty of good stuff is coming out of EA's studios these days, like Skate, Burnout, Battlefield and so on, and their sports franchises are generally getting a lot better recently, not to mention all the good externally-developed party games they publish.

I think EA are probaby better than Ubisoft these days.

Microsoft owned, meaning slightly better BUT THEY ARE WORKING FOR "THE MAN".
Epic are independent, I don't think MS even own the Gears of War brand, they just published the first game and had an exclusivity deal on it.

EA have become a lot better in recent years, them owning a company certainly isn't as terrible as it once was; they seem to've learnt to not stick their noses in too much and let companies get on with what they do while making purely administrative decisions.

I've still not forgiven them for squelching bullfrog and stopping development of DK3, however.

Never will.

What about Valve or Raven Studios or Splash Damage??

I had Hi-Octane, I think that was a bullfrog game? It was an awesome racing shooter. Wish I could get it to work again. It runs from DOS. :(

Never forgive for the destruction of Westwood Studios(command and conquer!) and Bullfrog(Dungeon Keeper!).
