I want to create simple RPG levels and stories with minimal effort. This said I am aware of the amount of effort that is required to create this sort of thing don't worry. I'm just curious as to what you think has the nicest level editor. I mean something with the bare simplicity of the Unreal Editor would be awesome but with a nice RPG engine already in place.

I have heard the Neverwinter Nights games are good for this sort of thing but I'm curious as to which one you would recommend and if you can think of anything better.

I really love the Oblivion editor but lose faith when it comes to conversation generation. And because of the quality of the engine and content already in place if I wanted to do any custom modelling my skills would have to skyrocket overnight.

Essential I am an amateur modeller looking for an engine to stick my stuff in.

If the fancyness of Oblivion feels scary (they do to me for sure!), why not try out the smaller brother, Morrowind? The graphics are worse, allright, the same goes for the animations and dialogue, but its easier, at least!
The dialogue, questing and journals might be a bit confusing at the starts and even though i don't completely get it yet, i am sure it can be learned painlessly with tutrorials and stuff.
Also, the editor as a whole - which reminds a fair bit about the Oblivion one - is one of the easiest to do around. It was what got me into modding.

Also, i find Morrowind far the most superior game, outside modding and stuff - it has far more playing hours (there are three times as many guilds and each takes three times longer to complete) and a more characteristic setting. It has its flaws, deffinetely (the cheesy graphics, infernal fighting system and once-in-every-while glitch, to mention some) but to this date i find it the best game made for the computer. Ever.

I am not very fond of Neverwinter Nights and even though the editor boasted to be easy, i never got the hang of it and kept knocking my head against barriers when trying to get just a relatively simple level done. I have, on the other hand, heard that Blender (an easy, open source/free 3D-modelling program) have a feature called NeverBlender which allows Blender models to be incorporated in Neverwinter Nights fairly easy.

Hope this was helpfull :)

Ooooh Blender integration is always a good thing. Thanks for you help. I might just stick to rendering film clips and the like rather than trying to branch into games at this juncture. I bought Neverwinter to have a glance at it but I think if I ever get into any proper modding it would be Oblivion.

Neverwinter Nights is awesome for it, although I got a little bit bored of it :(
