I think Realplayer is slowly trying to take over my laptop - tried to save a file in word today and discovered Real had already started taking over my documents (or so it seemed :ninja: ).
Is there any reason to keep it?

Yeah, that's nothing serious. But get rid of RealPlayer anyway, as the Message Center is uberannoying.

Get rid of it and download Real Alternative here (http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm)
It does everything Real does but does not take over or annoy you...

Hm.. realplayer can be a bit annoying at some times, but it never bitches when I try to play a .rm (contrary to divx/xvid which seems to bitch all the time.. one day you don't have sound, the next day no image and the day after that the whole thing just doesn't seem to work..).. so I'll keep it.

Real Alt. is fantastic. Been using it for ages now. Not only is is not full of all that Real spy crap, but i swear its faster too.
Check out what others have to say here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=1054136293

Probably is faster, if they've taken out all the crap...

Real tends to be more for streaming stuff - or that's what they use those annoying .ram files for the majority of the time - but it comes with realdownload and all that nonsense. Gah

I had Real once. Minutes later, I was like "OMG GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF! EEEEEW! AD-AWARE, KILL IT! KILL IT! Phew... Reboot!" but thanks to my 1337 anti-spyware 5k1llz i got rid of it completely and totally (I hope ) and I've never looked back. It slooowly takes over, and then annoys the crap out of you. Sort of like QuickTime, only worse.

hmm, I think someones screwed with their file assossications...
I cant stand realplayer! I didnt bother unninstalling it though, i just ran msconfig and stopped it loading at startup, so i still have it to run real audio files, though now i know about this realplayer alternative i expect real one's days on my hard drive are numbered!:p
For everything else though, i just use winamp, its got the best features really, though you have to pay for it if you wanna burn cds and rip em to mp3 at more than 2x!

Hmm I only use RealOne and I've never had any trouble with it, still with my computer it is hard to tell which programme it is that's spying at anyone time.

Realplayer has been giving me some problems lately, constantly reminding me to update when I've told it to come back thirty days later. I used the same method as Guy and just ran msconfig and stopped it running at startup. I took Quicktime out of startup as well, and I've noticed my computer loads a little faster.
I have a little problem, I want to uninstall Quicktime, but it tells me that I could lose some file associations or something like that, so I'm not too sure whether to fully uninstall it or not.
