you should get 2x100MB SATA hard drives and put em in a RAID 0 Swipe configuration (if your motherboard supports that) or even better!! 2x250!!!!ooohh 500GB!

why would he need to do that? and im sure 200 gig is adequate even for an extensive porn collection

TBH if one of my mates had a 200gig hard drive and didn't do enough with his/her computer to warrant it, I'd just think "wasted money!" :p

My current spec is:

Athlon XP 2500+ (333MHz FSB) CPU
1024Mb (2x256) DDR400 (dual chan config) RAM
120Gb Western Digital IDE 7200rpm 8Mb cache HDD
Sapphire 128Mb Radeon 9600 Pro GFX card
Abit NF7-S v2.0 Mobo

which I got last June/July.

I am planning on keeping the motherboard for at least 2 years, and up until then, the only thing I might buy is a

Athlon XP 3200+ (400MHz FSB) CPU

I am waiting til the price of it drops below £80, which I'm hoping it might do by the end of August.
I've seen it £115 OEM and £155 Retail atm.

hummm, just checked your mobo.

and it doesn't say it has an nForce2 (Ultra 400)

but still claims to go all the way to 400mhz...

the non ultra 400s where only 333mhz FSB

i'm puzzled

Something to look at is the new 64 bit AMD chips. Not too much more, but they do need a motherboard that will support.

As for Intel being better than AMD, it just depends what you are doing. A friend went from a AMD 2600+ with 512 megs of memory to a DUAL Xenon 2.8 ghz with 2 gig of memory for use in 3D animation. The Intel is faster if the program supports multiple processors, but for single processor programs, the AMD is actually faster.

Ive got an amd64! But if you really wanna go for the best option imo, you dont want to bother with xeons, but go for a dual opteron 246 rig. They have an on-die memory controller, interprocessor hypertransport tunnels, 512Kb L1 cache and 1Mb of L2 cache. It may just be my personal opinion, but ive always favoured amd chips over the intel variants. They get more done per operation and theyre better for heavy graphical activities
