This did occur Friday, but passed me by.

World number 4 Nikolay Davydenko has been fined $2,000, after losing in the St Petersburg open, for a 'lack of effort'. He was warned by the umprie in the final set of his defeat to the 87th-ranked Argentine Marin Cilic.

The ATP has bascially fined im because it didn't seem like he was trying to win the game enough. He claims his 'legs were gone' but the ATP have decided to fine him and look into the possiblity of match fixing.

Full story here. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7063220.stm)

I personally think that he wouldn't be silly enough to throw a match when he has been under scrutiny for match fixing since August. The fact that the match ended with his foot injury seems to indicate it could have been a fatigue problem and not a lack of effort.

As long as this goes on, tennis will never be a legit sport. And this goes on all the time.
