What do you think the new movie - "Beowulf" is going to be like ?

in my opinion it looks like a attempt to jump on the overly testosterone filled band wagon that follows 300 (don't get me wrong 300 was good).

the first picture i saw of the movie i didn't realise it was done completely through cgi (correct me if I'm wrong) but after watching the trailer some of it looks a little shabby, but overall the cast seems allright and there is no chance in hell that there is going to be a lack of action, so im thinking a okay movie to see once.

so your view ?

I am thinking of going to watch it. I think it looks good. If it isn't it won't be the first time i'm disapointed by a film.

i think the trailer makes it look quite odd...

they show a clip where he (beowulf) tries to smash something with his sword, but it disappears in a flash of light... it looks very unusual both because he literally smashes with his sword rather than slashing or stabbing, but also his movements are like the things you see in a computer game, rather than designed for the specific scene.

I reckon it'll be decent enough in terms of action and so on. Also, Angelina Jolie looks hotter than ever :D If I don't get to see it at the cinema, I'll almost certainly rent it.

As for the CGI, it looks pretty good, but I think we've yet to achieve true photo-realism. Whether that's the fault of the studio, or that the technology just isn't there yet, I'm not sure. Considering things like the Matrix sequels (some of the CGI shots of characters are really amazing) and Davy Jones in the Pirates films (which I honestly had no idea was CG until someone told me), I'd say it's probably the studio. A full-CG film is fine for cartoons like Toy Story or stylised stuff like Advent Children, but I've not yet seen a properly convincing photorealistic full-CG film.

personally i think they should have just kept the background blue screened like 300, and actually kept real people, instead of using cgi people

But with the cgi they could have naked Angelina Jolie without the toughest rating. (There was a story in the papaer, I guess they used a lot of those suites with the censors that collect the data on actual peoples movements to use as refernce points.)

I've got mixed feelings from what I've seen, the basic visuals of the movie are quite impressive but the talking scenes look kind of strange to me and the faces look kind of lifeless in a way. I also thought that it looked like 300, especially the way he says 'I am Beowulf' which seems to be the movies catchphrase type thing, but maybe the film has just been presented that way in the trailers to appeal to that audience.

I kind of want to see it because it looks entertaining enough and I like 3D stuff.

I want to see it for this:
Angelina Jolie admitted in an interview that when she saw how her character looked, she was shocked to see how nude she really was, to the point that she said she was reluctant to allow Brad Pitt and her children to see the movie.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing the film though, if I do, it would have to be the 3D version. Has anyone else seen it like this?

I am hopefully going to go see the 3D imax version here in bradford (if its not too expensive o corse - i am a student after all!)
As a visual effects technician myself i of course want to go see it as it looks technically very good (first time i saw the trailer i wouldent have guessed it was full cg), but i agree with sircheese - use real actors in front of bluescreen, and only use cg for what cg does best: big impressive scenery, visual effects, and anything else that cant be done for real.

Despite the fact it was written in the year 1010 :p

Between Tomb Raider 2 and Pushing Tin, I suspect there's not a lot left to the imagination :p

Looks like wholesale rape of english literature. Taking english language's oldest poem and then turning into a "300"-esque manfest feels pretty insulting to me.

But the original was pretty much the same!
Also, no spoilers? You get taught about in school, and its over 1000 years old. I think a lot of us know how it ends by now.

I'm going to see it, but I'm not getting my hopes up. The fully CGI effect just looks odd like Polar Express did, I don't think it improves the film at all.
