View Full Version : Best Christmas Adverts?

Okay, Okay, I know it sounds like a bad subject, but I thought I had to ask.

What's the best christmas advert from the past or present?

I'm not sure about this one as yet, I can't think of any decent christmas adverts, hence me asking the question.

So, GOGOGO

The old Coke ones were Christmas.

But alas, they are no more.

As a small child I used to like the Toys 'R' Us ones. Seemed like such a magical place.

Edit: Who the hell is Geoffrey though? I never got that. Is it the giraffe?

Why is the first thing everyone thinks of is Coke? To be fair I thought of it too.

Lol, that brought back memories.

Does it say "There's millions of Geoffrey all under one roof" at the end? Because that doesnt make sense.

I think its "there's millions says geoffrey"

I am a big fan of Irn Bru's Christmas ad from last year (http://youtube.com/watch?v=MZT1cwBGJNE).

Made up for the Coca Cola ones being a huge disappointment.

Made up for the Coca Cola ones being a huge disappointment.Agreed. It also makes up for all the shitty shops like Comet simply putting sleigh bells in their jingles and simply making it snow in the same ad they have been showing all year.

That and the Woolworths puppets need burning.

How much did you want to be one of Geoffrey's helpers when you were a kid?

Also, on the other side of the coin, does anyone else find the Sainsbury's Christmas ads at the moment absolutely sickening.

I do.

I hate Jamie Oliver.

It's not even Oliver that really irritates me about them. There is just so much bizarre stuff happening in them, and all of it is ridiculously twee.

Well you never know, there could have been a drop in sales or something.

As soon as I saw the thread title, I thought of the Irn Bru ad.

On another note, I do hope Dingbat does the Advent Calander again.

The old Argos advert playing 'Whatever You Want' with the constantly flashing images; seizure-inducingly brilliant.

What are they like this year?

Oh, and before I forget, I may be in the minority here but I really enjoyed the Marks and Spencer 'Ice Palace' ad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIUHYmpoORY) from last year. It's the one with Shirley Bassey singing 'Get This Party Started'. It's the music that sells it for me, to be honest - Dame Bassey has one heck of a voice and I like the idea of someone who I think of as very 60s and 70s doing something modern in her own style.

That, and the fact it was different to all the other pappy adverts on at the time.

here it is (http://youtube.com/watch?v=BuafvgDZlEs)

It's not that I have something against Christmas cheer, quite the opposite, it's just that the cheer in that advert is so cold and forced.

Hmm.

For some reason I am not keen on supermarkets using the same adverts 2 years in a row - it smacks of laziness, especially when they have gargantuun marketing budgets.

However, I get annoyed when Coke use an advert that isn't the lorries.

I'm a walking contradiction like that.

I'm collecting at the moment. Only problem is I did use the best 25 last year, so this year's might not be as good :-/

John Lewis' latest advert with the shadows cast from the stuff is pretty cool.

And yes, I do work for them, but it's a good advert all the same.

The Quality Street Ad Is Sexy.

The Morrisons ad? AHHHHHHHH! SHUT THE FUCK UP! SHUT THE FUCK UP! DIE! DIE! DIEEEEEEEE!

It's an embarrassment.

And yes. Alan Hansen has dropped down the respect ladder thanks to sodding Morrisons.

I saw the coke Christmas ad this morning, it's the traditional coke add but slightly altered, glad to see it's return though.

I don't think there are any christmas adverts I enjoy, they all seemed horribly forced even as a kid. Maybe I'm just not embracing the capitalist spirit of christmas enough.

And the worst Christmas adverts are Morrisons and Argos.
Especially Morrisons.

An interesting tidbit I learned; the advert was filmed in Tunbridge Wells. The same Tunbridge Wells where Morrisons closed their store, leading to >100 job losses. :isay:
