I'm running Leopard on my iMac, and as I have Italian friends who I talk to often on MSN as well as writing up coursework in many different languages, I wondered if there was a sort of ALT code system I could use to get accented characters quickly? The best means I have so far is changing the keyboard language via the International settings and clicking the characters on the on-screen keyboard as I need them. However, this is impractical as I have to keep changing languages and bringing up various keyboards.

yeah, it's really easy.
For a ` hit alt and that button with a picture of that thingy on to the top left of the alt key then the vowel you need. For ´ hit alt and e then the vowel you need. Then it's u for ¨ and i for ^. Any others?

Works apart from the ' key which gives me the Danish character æ (which will also come in useful). Am I using the wrong key?
Edit: I worked it out, it's the e key.
Testing: àèìòùáéíóú etc.
Would rep you if I hadn't done so 5 minutes ago :S thanks all the same!
