View Full Version : XBox 360 VS Laptop
Some of you may know I've been salivating after this laptop lately: the Acer 5920G. (http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5920G-302G25Hi_Laptop_LX.AN60X.041/version-1.asp) Its a fantastic little machine, with a 2GHz Dual Core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB HDD, a HD-DVD drive and (most importantly) a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS graphics card, which I have been assured can run Bioshock and the like very nicely indeed.
However lately I've been wondering whether I'm better off getting me an XBox 360 and a nice little 20-23" HDTV for about £100 less. I do intend to use it primarily for gaming, although the laptop would come in a bit handier for when I go to Uni next year. As I'm an indecisive bastard, I ask you: which would you go for?
Summary:
£800 laptop with all the bells and trimmings
VS
Xbox 360 (possibly an Elite) plus 20"ish HDTV for about £700-£750

360 doesn't have a web browser (I'm not sure if they will though) and doesn't have a word processor, has msn though.
Laptop could most likely run most 360 games if you're paying £800 for it.
I say laptop and a wired 360 controller and buy the games that are available for the pc.

the laptop will be able to run any games the 360 can, and now viva pinata is out on pc who needs a 360 amirite? seriously i'd go to the laptop, having one at uni is handy as fuck, and that'll be able to handle all your games fine :)
edit: also you'll only be disappointed by the 360 when you realise there arent any pokémon games out. i know i was :(
Thanks for the advice guys. I think I was enticed by the 360 because I can afford that right now, but I shall be patient and endure!

aaaaaaand on a side note even though the laptop has a smaller screen, it can still do 720 resolution HD poifectly and natively, and 1080 will only be slightly shrunk and still look pretty cool i reckon :) but yus, thats a nice laptop, have fun with it <3

I'd go for the laptop too but be careful when running games like that at full settings, you may end up with a lovely melted chunk of plastic

Laptop. Save the 360 until you get about 3 months into Uni.

Wouldn't that stand more chance of the red ring of doom with it being a laptop?
He did put water cooling in though so it could be better, I've confused myself.

Go for the 360, laptops are overrated, you end up doing not-so-much with them.
Unless you don't have another pc

sounds like it would be his only PC, especially if he's spending that much on it. i would go for the laptop, much more portable and you'll be able to do much more with it. looks like it will be great for gaming too. :)

Somehow i think he would be using it a fair bit for uni...
Also, people i know who have laptops think they are great and very useful, even just sitting in bed and using it.

As someone who spent half his time in the uni library queueing for a PC, go for the laptop.
Odds are your uni will offer wifi in at least some of its buildings, anywho.
