OH MY GOD JC A BOMB!

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/26/deus-ex-3-gets-the-green-light/

Though plans for a return to the world of Deus Ex were revealed back in May, Gamasutra brings further confirmation that gamers will frolic through post-apocalyptic sci-punk landscapes once more. Perhaps frolic isn't the best word ("Behave like a professional, JC!"). According to general manager Stéphane D'Astous, Deus Ex 3 has passed proof of concept and will be the inaugural project for the recently established Eidos Montreal studio. "This game was very highly rated at its release in 2000," said D'Astous, "and we have this great huge mandate to do the third one, and everybody is very excited."

We sincerely hope the team also plays great huge disappointment, Deus Ex: Invisible War, and brings the series into the current generation with aplomb. No specific platforms have been announced yet, but the studio intends to churn out "only major AAA games, using only next-gen technology." As it's adopting a 24-month development cycle for its initial titles, don't expect more about the game until next year at the earliest.

Woo! I just hope this is nothing like Invisible War. It's a shame Warren Spector is busy with his own studio now.

There's a little teaser trailer on Eidos Montreal's site: http://www.eidosmontreal.com/en/games.html

24 month development schedule apparently though, so I'll look forward to this on Xbox 720 and DirectX 11.

Oh thanks.

You couldn't have told me in like two years from now when it's like a day away from release.

I will be excited for at least that long now.

Oh sweet holy sentient block of pure win. Want.

Yes, that's all I'm saying on this. Want now.

Am I the only person who's not all that excited? I mean, I never finished the originals (the PC I was playing them on died, and it was a while before I was back on Windows), but while they were pretty good, they weren't "let's make two sequels" good.

I can't wait! Still play Deus Ex from time to time

I think Deus Ex was "let's make about 17 sequels" good, but arguably Deus Ex 2 was "let's bury this series and never speak of it again" bad.

one of the endings of deus ex 2 doesn't allow them to combine all the endings, like they did after the first one.

Our mission will require us to do more than wear baggy coats that make us look bigger than we really are.

I'm fairly excited about this. I haven't played Invisible War (although I hope to give it a bash over the next month or so) but the first one is one of the few games I consistently revisit and enjoy, although it is slightly overlong, I admit.

Deus Ex is the hardest game ever. I think I just got past the first level after a billion tries on easy.

I've played it through so many times that doing it now on the second hardest difficulty (I think) I'm finding it a breeze.

Not heard of "Deus Ex" before. The trailer didn't seem to make much sense to me. I read the info and it seems interesting. I'll make up my mind when better trailers come out (with actual gameplay).

Just play the first game. You will instantly be excited by this news.

I've never tried Deus Ex on anything other than "realistic" difficulty, and I dunno how that compares to the standard set of difficulty levels exactly. I believe realistic makes it easier to die, but also makes other people die quicker.

I've never played Deus Ex on anything other than the easiest mode, for me most of the fun in the game comes from experimenting, doing things in different ways, choosing different options, interacting with different characters or in different ways. But yes the original was excellent and I didn't think Invisible War was that bad either though definitely not superior to the original. I'll certainly be getting this third one but I doubt it'll be better than the first, I'd be happy enough if it was similar to Invisible War though.

I think a lot of people give up on the first level as you have the skills and general hand-eye coordination of a 5 year old but it just gets so much better.

It makes everything about a bazillion times harder towards the end when you're fighting MJ12 commandos and MIBs all over the shop, and you have to be pretty nimble when fighting bots too. On the other hand, it does make it more rewarding to play a stealth game. On Easy or Normal, there is pretty much no incentive to do anything other than blow everyone up.

every time i play it i get frustrated at first at the old-feeling control, then get frustrated again at the lack of autosave, then get into it and love it again.
And I've only ever tried on easy. Like Mr. 12345, I like to tit around with weird solutions to the problems rather than worry about survival all the time.

That's how I thought of it for ages, but now, playing it through on a higher difficulty, I'm finding myself thinking of much more solutions to problems than I was on easy, because now (I am at versalife hong kong) it is often easier to be stealthy than to blast everything. The game being slightly over long as it is, I always used to end up just shooting everything around about the supertanker level, sometimes sooner.

That's exactly why I didn't get far on the first one.
I played Invisible War first for the xbox and thoroughly enjoyed it; probably because I hadn't played the first.
I think I'm gonna go buy the first game again, and give it another go.

Now that's what I call a bargain. I'll be picking that up tomorrow at my local gamestation. :D

..Random swear here.

I would still be happy to pay over £20 for it. It's just that good.
Also, I think the main thing about the "realistic" difficult setting is that everyone does a lot more damage, you or enemies.

I'm actually replaying the whole thing again now. I missed this game..

There are a few things I notice about it now though, that were fine at the time but just grate a little now.

For example, a lot is made about how "everything you do effects the game in the long term" which is balls. They do quite well at making it seem like your actions make a difference, but bar one or two, they have no practical effect at all, and even the ones that do it is quite short term. The way the game pans out in that sense is basically decided in the first two levels.

The other thing is that it seems weird now how enclosed all the locations are. Obviously that's just technical restraints, but for a game with such a huge scope, it seems bizarre. I did have more, but I've forgotten, maybe I will get back to you.

If anybody's about to (re)play the original Deus Ex now it's worth mentioning that there's mods to improve the experience, like this hi-res texture pack (http://www.offtopicproductions.com/hdtp/) to make it less ugly, or Shifter (http://yukichigai.googlepages.com/shifter) which apparently "removes the suck". I haven't tried these but I've heard good things and I mean to check them out some time.

I've got project HDTP. It's not finished yet, so you don't notice the difference that often, but when you do it is pretty amazing. It's most noticeable on datacubes, crates and Gunther (The only character they've reskinned so far)

Gawd I want this now. I would've bet it would be made in the Unreal Engine 3 but that would be stupid as I read it is using the Crystal Engine that the latest Tomb Raider games used.

Heres hoping it will be a step back to the wonderiness of the Original. It's not that Invisible War was bad. It's just that it didn't deserve the name Deus Ex. So here's to 3 being the true number 2.

And by that I don't mean poo.
