Insanity is fun

Completed it last night, loved the ending, felt sad that they could do so well with that and then do so badly on FF12
Still got 2 more final weapons to get (Yuna and Lulu) so gonna get them and then get all the dark aeons and do penance
12 was bad?
10 was good??
9 wasn't mentioned???

I did think 12 was pretty dire, storyline was boring, characters weren't very interesting and the only saving grace was the hunting minigame
10 I think is absolutely great
9 I have not played unfortunately :(

I'm still yet to complete FFX and FFXII...
Mainly cause I CBA with Sin (FFX) and I don't have my PS2 (both)

I got bored with IX. I was decent, II is starting to get monotonous, VI (or V, can't remember which) started well, VII was fantastic, VIII was a bit strange as the series goes, and XI is just far too complex for my poor mind to handle.
I'm going to cry now.

Oh Jesus Christ, they had it so perfect with Final Fantasy XII, and then the they put an enormous difficulty curve. I'd rather play X-2 than XII, and thats horrible.
My favourite will always be Final Fantasy 8, because it was my first. I remember running from every single battle and getting to the 3rd disc, where I was too lazy to level up, so I was going to restart the game. That would have been easier if the first disc hadn't gone missing out of nowhere.
I managed to get a copy in my Gamestop; I went in and asked him if he had any Final Fantasy games, because I was looking for 8+9, and then started looking around. 10 minutes later a lad walked in an traded his FF8 in. 2.50, bargain.

X was fantastic
XII was dull
They should have stuck to turn based combat in my opinion
And worked on the storyline more

When talking about japanese rpgs I have to side with Yahtzee Croshaw. (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation)
"Japanese RPGs and me have this little understanding; I don't play them and they can suck as much as they like far away from me..."

Only bad thing about XII, in my opinion, was the story. Gameplay was great, though I do agree that it was kinda difficult at the start. You need to spend some time levelling up before you do stuff, really.

FFXII at least gives you the ability to program your characters' behaviour and let them get on with it; one hand on the left stick, one hand holding a book is the easiest and most entertaining way to level up. The fact that you have to do that for hours on end just to stay on top is ridiculous, though.
I loved the combat system in X; it let you take things at whatever pace you wanted. Shame they squandered it on identical enemies that could be killed in one hit by the right character. Also, that fucking chocobo racing game on the plains. Every moment is carefully crafted to make you fail at every turn and scream until purple with rage.

Don't these Final Fantasy threads appear every couple of months?
Anyway, IX was best, X was pretty good, X-2 really wasn't THAT bad and IV, V and VI were quite good for their time.

IX for the win. I think I'm going out today to rebuy XII, if only for Balthier (Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War [PSP] had Balthier in as a cameo recruitable character, complete with his own CG cutscene, voiceover and awesome one-liners, hence why I want to play as him some more).
Also, X was "meh", X-2 was horrible, XII (what I played of it before having it stolen) was ok but moved waaaaaay too slowly for my tastes (nobody wants to level grind in a single player RPG), VII was "meh", Tactics is amazing, VIII was good, I is great, II is ok, VI was great, and III, IV, and V I have yet to play.

I spent about an hour trying to get that 00:00 time on that game. I did like the way you were supposed to attack with a certain character, and Yojimbo was really cool. He was also the reason I got Anima; I saved up a load of money and went back to Macalania. Zanmato, dead Dark Shiva. After 5 tries. Worth it though.

Good, everyone who's anyone should get that game. I finally beat it last week with about 40 hours clocked of gameplay...mainly leveling up so I could reach the Dark Knight job with Ramza (whom is a good 20 levels ahead of the rest of my party).
Also, prereqs for Dark Knight in case you're wondering why it took me so long:
Knight - Mastered*, Black Mage - Mastered*, Geomancer - Level 8, Dragoon/Lancer - Level 8, Samurai - Level 8, Ninja - Level 8, and 20 kills (so that the enemy turns into a crystal or treasure box) with that character.
*Mastered = all abilities learned

I really enjoyed FFX, a hell of a lot more than FFXII.
FFX had a massive storyline involving basically taking down religion, and that was cool, also the ending had me ;_;. Plus the music was some of the best I've heard coming from my PS2 in quite a while.
FFXII started off with a promising war going on, only for the scene to then shift to a small urchin boy (with a triangle nose) who then is told by lizards to go pick stuff up around a very bland town, and then a bland desert, and then some other bland things. And the supporting characters that do appear, whilst rather good, are never used to their full potential. And the trailers made it look so good :(

X struck the right balance - it was as slow or as fast as you liked, with plenty of tactical edge and being able to see in advance how different attacks would affect the order of play. The ATB system just feels so arbitrary now, like you're being forced to wait needlessly before inputting a command.

I got congratulated by my FF-slightly-more-obsessed friend for getting as far as I did on such low levels.
This turned out to be a problem whilst attempting Sin, and I cba to level up.

Can't wait for XIII; they've apparently been trying to make the combat feel as much like Advent Children as possible. They probably won't succeed, but this is promising nonetheless. And a spin-off by the Kingdom Hearts team? Oh gods, yes.

square enix lost me at XII. it didn't look like final fantasy any more. :( the main thing about ff is the battle scenes and they changed the combat system into more of a realtime combat which isn't FF

Grrr... just bought this two weeks ago from them for £18, but have only just found time to play it... never played Tactics so it's a bit of learning curve.
I was introduced to FF on PC (with VII), which I found addictive til VIII came out, which was not as good.
I love X for the story and overall look-feel to the world, X-II was <shrug>.
XII was a disappointment given all the rave reviews - I liked the combat system but didn't like much else (plot seemed completely unconnected with the lovely FMV, Vaan was a dud).
III (on DS) was ok.
The number of hours of my life spent on FF should never be calculated.

Can someone explain what they don't like about FF8? I understand that some people aren't going to like some games, but I like it so much, so I'm probably a bit blinded.

Oh I dunno, Triple Triad had it's uses. for example; getting the Laguna card to convert it into 100 holy wars so you could rinse Omega Weapon.
FF8 was great, felt really dark; the junctioning system wasn't too bad but then after the relative simplicity of the whole materia shebang, it'd never compete and would always feel a bit shit.

I loved the junctioning system. Irvine was also pretty cool.....
Irvine was the typical character suffering from "I'm a ladies man cause I'm compensating for being a lonely bastard" complex, he was a good fighter but I didn't like him that much, Zell just annoyed me, Quistis had a bad case of teh emos from what seemed like it was caused by not being able to get with her student (Squall), Selphie was just giddy as hell but I could overlook that cause half the time she was the only one in the group who made sense, Rinoa was the typical maiden in distress who didn't really need to be a party member, Squall was somewhat redeeming but he also had a case of emo-repressiveness which got annoying after a while.
Seifer, Fujiin, and Raijin were by far the best characters in that game with Biggs and Wedge getting the best recurring enemy in the game award, if only for their constant bickering.
This is also why I like IX more than VIII, none of the characters were overplaying their emotions even though they all clearly had their own demons.

Biggs and Wedge are recurring characters in Final Fantasy games, just like Cid. Not related to eachother but their names are always there. And yes it's a Star Wars reference. In FF8 they were two G-Army soldiers you fight about 3 times in the course of the game.

I'm playing this, I'm stuck on the bit where you have to fight that big dragony thing before you can go and get Yuna from Bevelle. I was stuck for ages on fighting Maester Seymour, until I realised that you get Yuna to cast those anti magic spells on the team.
Not my favourite. My favourites are FFVIII and FFIII for DS. I'm also playing FFV but I'm not sure if I like it or not.
