Is it safe to use a Vista upgrade on a formatted hard drive? My hard drive at the moment is full of crap that I don't need and I thought I might as well format it and start fresh. The only problem is I'm planning on using a Vista Premium Upgrade disc as a fresh OS. Would this work properly? The eBay advert said that it would work but I'm not sure as I don't want to re-install XP all over again and drivers etc. Thanks in advance!
Oh, here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330192794877&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=014

you'll probably have to install xp and then upgrade vista over the top.

Umm, would it work with a pirated XP SP1? I bought it cheap a while back like an idiot when I didn't realize the consequences.

Theres a exploit you can use to upgrade a 'trial' install of Vista. I'm not sure if it still works, but many confirmed it a while ago.
What you do is you install your copy without the CD key, so it goes into 30 day trial mode. Then within this installed trial, pop the install disc back in and then start the upgrade process all over, within your installed copy of vista.

Alternatively buy the OEM copy which is the same price.
Also, upgrading a copy of XP that is ligit invalidates the XP cd key. Thats why the upgrade version is rubbish, because they are taking away the copy of XP licence you already have.
I'd bitch about vista a bit but i cbf putting up some decent argument. Vista SP1 might fix some things.

Thanks, will try that method when I receive Vista, don't think it can make my pc any worse :D.
