Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has admitted that he has not ruled out representing England.

Almunia, who has made 19 starts so far this campaign, has yet to be capped by Spain, meaning that he could qualify to play for England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland if he were granted dual nationality.

I wouldn't have any problem with that. I assume if it is a choice between Spain or England though he would choose Spain. Its obvious that he doesn't just want to repay the support he gets in England, but wants to take part in World Cups and such.

Is he really that much better than what we have now? I mean, granted, better than Robinson and Carson, but Green and James have been very consistent, and make very few errors between them these days. (Yes, yes, I remember when he was 'Calamity' James, but for Pompy I can't remember him having a bad game)

Not sure about this one. He's a decent keeper, but getting on a bit now. 31/32 isn't he?

Surely that means hes still good for another four or five years then.

Don't keepers tend to develop later and retire later than outfield players?

Don't keepers tend to develop later and retire later than outfield players?Yes, but it means that he isn't on for the future. Maybe he would get a few games but that would mean talented youngsters like Foster , Carson and Green (although not that young anymore) getting yet more bench time and thus hampering their development.

Yes, but like James he isn't getting any younger, and we need to build for the future.

edit: What AP said.
