Loading music

So, I have a problem and being too ignorant, I need your halp.
Whenever I click on a music file from my media library (In both foobar and winamp), the first second or so of the song takes about 4-5 seconds to play. This results in the music sounding horrible and "laggy". During this time, my whole computer slows down. The mouse is jerky, and maxamising a window takes ages.
Any idea why this could be happening?

What sound card do you have?

Have you updated the drivers?
Windows update has sound card drivers in optional for most cases. If i update them it kills my sound and makes it crackly. You haven't updated them recently have you?
If you haven't, maybe try updating them?

Have you done anything you think might have caused this?
New hardware etc?

Is it only foobar and winamp? try WMP and VLC.
Is it only the library or if you open it other ways too?

I updated the drivers on my soundcard, now it works fine. Cheers :)
