Story (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/7137847.stm)
Capello has been signed as the England boss on a four and a half year deal.
So what does everyone think?
Personally I think the FA are stupid to sign him on for a four year deal. Why not two years? Then if he fails to qualify for the world cup you can sack him without the massive payoff they had to give Mclaren.
Ugh, I hate him, we've not won a single match with him managing and it has to end.

If we don't qualify, it won't be Capellos fault. He's one of the very elite managers in the world....if he can't get them playing, nobody can.
I hate the FA, but for once, they've done something right. Capello is the best manager we've had since Bobby Robson, and he might actually get us somewhere.

He, for once, is the most qualified candidate for making underachieving, overpaid footballers play like they should.
If we don't achive under him we will have to turn upon the players themselves.
By the way, there is not a chance we won't qualify for the World Cup, it was incredibly unfortunate for us to not qualify for the European Championship and now idiots are labelling England as a team that struggles to qualify.

We weren't incredibly unfortunate to not qualify.
We played shit, other teams played better and more consistently than us. Therefore they go through.

Yeah, I worded it wrong...
I just dislike the whole attitude of England now being too poor to qualify for the World Cup.

I don't know much about Capello, but since he's an 'elite' manager surely will be able to give a good kick up the arses of the players, and hopefully will be wise enough to play 4-4-2 since thats whats suited to the players.
I like the idea of him bringing his own coaching unit which he knows and will work well with.

Great to have got Capello, but for 6.5m a year, for 4 years? Once again, the FA has fucked up in the contract department.
It should have been no more than 4m a year, for two years, with a possibly extension depending on the World Cup in 2010.

But whats the point? Say we don't win the World Cup then....we sack Capello? What would that achieve? We won't get anyone better, we'd just knee-jerk ourselves into being dumped with an English manager. Great. Big Sam or Harry - the answer to every wrong with England :\
He's gotta be given time, and only giving him two years is getting it off on a bad foot right away because it's basically saying "Look, we've hired you because you're a world class manager - but we don't know if we really like you yet, so we're gunna keep or options open to sacking you later."
Capellos England in comparison to McLarens England will be like watching Spurs one day, and AC Milan the next. We'll start playing the effective, solid football that this grop of players should be able to out together.
His big one though - what will THIS manager do with Gerrard - Lamps? We all know he won't be affraid to drop one if it won't work.

You've missed my point completely (probably because I didn't explain it well). If it'd been for 2 years, and Capello didn't want to carry on, then the FA could say "Alright, we didn't win the World Cup and you want to leave the post, see yo later."
Now, if Capello wants to step down after the 2010 WC, the FA will have to pay up another big cheque as a compensation package. How well is that going to go down? I'm sure 90% of England fans will be wanting Barwick's head if we have to agree another compensation fee for another manager, because of a stupid four year contract that didn't need to be put in place. I'm not saying Capello will step down after 2010, but it's a possibility.

From what I've heard there is a pre-agreed 'opt-out' clause for after the 2010 world cup, at least the BBC mentioned one, not sure what the terms of it are, but it sounds like the FA don't want to be stuck with another case like Sven's or McClown's.
As for getting Capello, well, could we have asked for any better? Possibly one of the most successful managers in football history, I think it'd be hard to find a manager in world football today that doesn't look up to him. Having him in charge now puts all the responsibility squarely on the players, if we don't perform now, then we're just not good enough.
