http://www.3drealms.com/news/2007/12/dnf_teaser_video.html

Last Saturday we had our annual company Christmas party. It was a lot of fun as usual but it featured one special surprise. It turns out that several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party. They created a short teaser for Duke Nukem Forever.

After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it's just a teaser, rest assured more is coming.

Tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, around noon CST, we will release the first teaser trailer from Duke Nukem Forever. To tide you over until then, there has been a screen shot taken from the teaser and posted in our forums. Check it out here.

Thank you for being fans of the game and for your continued patience.

We'd like to thank the people on the team that worked so hard to create this teaser and the friends of 3DR that helped create it (Jeremy Soule and Julian Soule, Frank Bry, Jason Evigan and of course, Jon St. John).

I've never played any Duke Nukem games before so I'm curious to see how this turns out, from what I've read the older games had a strong sense of humour and I hope that's something they keep in DNF, not enough game's laugh at themselves.

It'll be ready when it's...ready!

But yeah, looks like it'll be a cheap tie-in to me.

Yay! With any luck we might get a release this decade. Maybe.

I love the fact that this since this game has been in development J.K. Rowling wrote the entire Harry Potter series, there's been 7 final fantasy games not counting all the spin offs, not to mention the entire GTA series and, with the exception of Wolfenstein 3D, every WW2-based FPS ever. Google and ebay didn't even exist back when they started. I mean, it took Einstein less time to formulate his theory of general relativity or for America to land on the moon.

It had better be good.

We've waited over ten years for that?

After almost a decade, to be honest, it doesn't look like they've improved the models much.

How does 3d Realms still even have money to pay people with, it hasn't released anything since the Earths crust cooled . Manhattan project was in 2001 right?

3D Realms make most of their money as publishers. They've had a hand in making a few games in the last few years:

They produced Max Payne, which was pretty successful, and its sequel, which was not.

They also produced Prey which did incredibly well and was actually announced before DNF. That makes eleven years of development for that one. 'Twas worth it though. <3 portals.

Duke Nukem 3D was the first rated M game I ever played (hooray for the ESRB and its arbitrary ratings!). Conincidentally, it also happend to be my first foray into a virtual strip club.

Frankly, I couldn't be more excited, unless of course there was solid proof that this time they're actually releasing the fucking game.

I do, and those models look like 2001 material.

To be fair they'd never beat Duke Nukem 2.

And the reason it looks like shit is because over the time they've taken there have been at least 5 generations of graphics development and I'm guessing they haven't adapted it to each engine as it came out. I'm gonna bet that's still the Q3 engine or equivalent.

I thought they moved from the Quake engine to Mequon physics ages ago?

I remember seeing the really old screenshots back in the first issue of PC Gamer I ever bought (Issue 77!) and it looked absolutely fantastic at the time, looking back I'm still impressed at how those graphics looked in 99.

But how has it taken so long? What are they trying to do that requires this much time? Valve have released HL1, 2 expansions, Counter Strike, DoD, Gunman chronicles, HL2, Ep1 and Orange Box in this time, and they're another company we complain about taking too long with games!

There's been an update to the announcement:

UPDATE: Here is an update that George Broussard made online this evening:

Guys just to manage expectations...
This is a teaser. It's not a full blown trailer like the 2001 trailer (but something like that is coming). I tried to be clear about that in the message board post, so just bear in mind that it's a teaser :)

Enjoy.

I can't download the 'teaser' as it says the server is to busy but it sounds like it's going to be pretty short. It's weird that 6-7 years after the full blown trailer they manage to make a teaser.

Anyway, as long as you can still press the spacebar which makes the strippers show you their boobies I'll buy it.

I worry about this game coming out and nobody buying it because Duke Nukem has lost all of his cultural cache over the last decade. It would be an unfitting reception for a hero amongst men such as Duke!

Duke 3D was pretty huge when it came out, it seemed like everyone at my school was talking about it. If they'd put out a sequel two years after that it would have been huge, instead of just burning money for a decade and then crapping out a game for people who don't care any more. I feel like game characters and stories have become quite a bit more sophisticated since Duke 3D, bringing back Duke now is like having Bernard Manning headline the 2008 royal variety performance.

edit: Just realised Bernard Manning is dead. Comparison still works somehow!

Wow, their site is painfully slow. And it's way past noon, but still no sight of the teaser.

I'll be looking forward to this game for old times sake though.

valve didnt make most of those games you listed! Gearbox made the hl1 expansions, rewolf made gunman etc etc etc, and as stated earlier 3d realms have been playing the publisher game

i wish they'd make a new commander keen though :(

Still, the game should be pretty cool

Duke Nukem 3D was an awesome game that me and my friend used to play together on the N64 all the time, I just hope DN:F will be as or even better than 3D.
The teaser was good (for a teaser) graphics look good (not that they don't need work) and I'm sure it looked as if it was set in Las Vegas, anyway here's hoping for the best.

Graphics look like early PS2 graphics, trailer was amazingly typical and boring, except for that one line at the end, which made me half-smile.

I've never been excited about this game anyway.

Thats the 2D one with the spiders that land on your head right? I always cheated to get the gun that lets you fly.

Also its running on a heavily modded Unreal Engine 2.0. UE2.0 was used to make UT2003, 2.5 was used to make UT2004. Apparently they have modified it so only a few things are the original engine. This is probably a good thing as it means it wont shit all over peoples computers like some newer engines do.

Also, whats the bet that it comes to consoles?

No they didn't

I actually quite liked the trailer, mostly because of the way it was presented rather than it showing anything particularly amazing, but I'm still interested to see how this game turns out. I quite liked Prey and seems slightly more original in it's story than that.

This.

My childhood consisted of piles of brightly colored garish pc games. Duke, Keen, Super Solvers, Math Blaster.

Bring back Apogee, 3D Realms!

And Apogee made Stargunner, the most awesome side scrolling shooter on PC. I wish I knew how to make it work with DOSBox.

I don't really understand why everyone is so excited by this game. That teaser isn't all that really. The graphics do look a bit poor compared to some of the stuff coming out recently, and quite frankly, does a game as reactionary as Duke Nukem have any relevance in today's culture?

This is to say nothing of the fact that DN3D's celebrated "humour" was mostly jokes about pissing in urinals and seeing a stripper's blockily rendered tits.

Don't get me wrong. I loved DN3D back in the day. But I was also about 10 years old.

Does Half Life? Does Doom? Does Burnout Domination? Since when did games stop being about fun and more about social comment?

Also, the post above was a way of saying there was ALREADY A THREAD ON THIS GAME.

Not what I meant Dave. I meant that DN3D is just so ridiculously of it's time, like old Sylvester Stallone movies or the less good Clint Eastwood movies. Same probably does go for Doom and Half Life is a special case I would have thought.

And? Of course it's out of it's time, so what's wrong with a new one? Doom 3 had some decent acclaim, and I very much enjoyed playing it. I think it looks fairly good, but then again I only have enough money to choose square meals over an upgraded desktop so I haven't approached "good graphics" for quite sometime. I mean, Christ, I'm running Max Payne on software. SOFTWARE.

Duke Nukem games have always been fun, and from what I've heard about the interactivity in this is great. It promises to be a fun fun fun game.
