I'm a very disgruntled Sunderland fan who is p'd off with footie officials at the minute cos his team have been cost 3 potentially key points cos of rubbish officiating which could easily have been solved.
If video replays were allowed to help refs make decisions many decisions could be made to a higher standard. I know the arguments against it, ie. it would ruin the flow of the game, but with technology these days it wouldnt take too long to do it and it could help solve match defining decisions. i think it should be used for controversial decisions where a red card may be given or there has been a questionable goal. In my opinion that would solve a lot of problems and stop a lot of bitterness against refs/officials which seems to happen a lot from fans/managers. Saying this i think it should be used at key times and not to excess where it would ruin the flow of the game, however, i'm not sure where this is.
So anyway what do you guys think of using video replays. Do you think they should be used or not/only for goal line decisions?
ps. If this threads been done before sorry and just ignore it (i couldnt find it)

Referees are supposed to referee the game, not be the centre of attention by handing out cards top, down, up, bottom, strange and charm. Ignore that brief spell of sub-atomic particle physics lexicon.
There are only a few of these attention-whores, but there are still too many of them IMO and it's the FA's duty to recognise and deal with them.
And as for ruining the flow of the game, I think giving players the option to appeal would be the best choice. This could be used for potential fouls and dubious goals.

This could be used for potential fouls and dubious goals.I heard a suggestion on this and thought it was a great idea. Give a team a set number of appeals against a decision and then replay. They get say 3 in a match (where the decision could be dubious or it could be used for time wasting), once they've used all 3 they can appeal but are penalised if incorrect, although I cannot recall what the penalty should be. I think someone suggested they lose a player, but I thought that to be rather harsh.

That appeals idea is kind of rubbish... we don't want it to start turning into tennis now, do we?
I think goal-line technology should be implemented, but only used for controversial decisions, such as whether the ball crossed the line. There isn't really any other need for it, because cameras pick up other incidents (such as red card offences) pretty easily. It's different for potential goals, with the posts in the way.
Either fit a camera inside both posts of the goal, or have a motion detector inserted into either the crossbar, or underneath the pitch where the goal line is. That way, if the ball does cross the line then the referee can call whether it's a goal or not.

As for your suggestions I think you're right. Camera technology has been available for years for this kind of debate, yet I don't see why it hasn't been introduced.

As they always say though - we love the bitching really. It gives us something to talk about. How fucking boring would football be without debatable decisions?
The appeals idea is horrible to me. The only thing that needs to be added to football is ball-line technology, because it's easy and unintrusive. Frankly, it's baffling it hasn't been already. The fact we can't convey to just ONE person whether a ball has cross a clearly defined line in this day and age is embarrassing.

Plus, even with watching numerous replays it can't always be decided what happens. The rules of football are open to inturpretation and different people would have different opinions of what is a foul. In the case of whether the ball crossed the line I would be in more favour to see this introduced but it's still funny to see it happen to other people, especially Sunderland.
