Just wanted to ask if anyone is aware of an XP/Vista 64 compatible version of Itunes at any point soon?

No, unfortunately Apple has not made one :( (and I don't think anyone has modded itunes to make it work)
I would have recommended against using the 64 bit windows... While it's better for technical uses, it's worse when trying to find programs and drivers for it.

thank khane, but my question was are they going to bring a 64 bit version out and when. I knew the current version is 32 bit only - hence the question.

I'm pretty sure 7.5 is compatible with 64 bit, are there any specific issues you have?

Edit: Google says if it's the installer that's the problem on Vista:

1. Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click on Command Prompt -> Run As Administrator.
2. Type “cd C:\Windows\SysWOW64″
3. Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll

According to the apple forums, there are still issues with running it that way. It works but not completley.

Hmm, you're right, further research says ripping/burning doesn't work too well, but you can use a seperate app for that.

As for your original question... Yes, eventually it will be fully compatible - I read somewhere that Apple and Microsoft are working together (:ultra:) to fix the remaining issues :)

I found a solution. :D

Apparently the 64 bit Gear drivers that iTunes needs for burning are the main problem. Here's a link.

It's very annoying that Apple are not saying anything about this. I will now purchase an Ipod, knowing that the software will work.

It is odd, but there must be a reason for it: All the newer Macs are 64-bit so it can't be a problem with that, perhaps there are bugs elsewhere.

I dunno, but the software is officialy non-64 bit on both vista and xp. With the fixes here though, it appears to work fine. So as I say, I will now invest in an Ipod classic 80gb.

That is when somebody gets 'em back in stock. :(

Crap. I had to find this out after ordering a 64 bit OS for my new system.

As I have said, with the tweaks here stated by Lewiji and myself, most peoples problems are sorted.

I just hope you have an Ipod thats compatable with 64bit. some of them ain't.

...Sigh, anyone know of a website listing them, or is wikipedia my best bet? After minimal research all I know is mine is fourth generation. Do we know if that is 64bit supported, or do I need to head bash soon?

Forth gen Ipod colour with click wheel?

Fourth gen 20gb click wheel. Black and white, simple. Looking at a basic diagram on the itunes website, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60971 I believe it works with vista marked by the tick. I assume that is 64 bit, right? Its just marked as iPod (Click Wheel) on there.

Looking at that (Which I was looking for and failing to find) I would say you are safe. :D

That was my feeling, thanks for that. This topic is really helpful.

It's because 64-bit Vista has a Program Files and a Program Files (x86) folder, and the x86 folder is where the program files of the programs that are not 64-bit compatible and therefore require 32-bit emulation. When iTunes is installing the paths that it uses to try to interact with other software are hard-coded (internet says that is a beginner's mistake) which means it looking for programs in Program Files when it should actually be looking in x86.

Or something.

I.E. Why have apple got no links to this in their faqs. Also your answer would not explain why that that problem with 64 isn't in their faqs either. They just say it isn't compatible.
