THE RULES

Every entrant must submit a list of ten celebrities who they believe will pass away before midnight on 31st December 2008.
All chosen celebrities must be human and must be real people (ie no characters from soaps or film)
All chosen celebrities must be named in the entry (ie no entires of Pope What's-his-name or "the oldest man in the world") - If they are a celebrity who is not likely to be recognised by the majority of the entrants, please add a simple not to explain who (s)he is (ie "Margaret Thatcher - ex-British Prime Minister").
Anyone caught murdering their target will be sent to bed without any supper and will not receive their Death Pool points (and you may also face up to life imprisonment or even the death penalty depending on where you live). Other entrants will receive their points as normal.
In order to qualify as a celebrity, the entrant must be famous enough to get an obituary in a major British/American newspaper or on the BBC website upon their death.
Up to three substitutions may be made throughout the year (one substitute only if you enter after 2359 on 15th June 2007), although a points penalty will be imposed if this person then dies. A person cannot be substituted after it is widely announced that they are terminally ill or have been hospitalised after suffering serious injuries in an accident. This rule also applies to new entrants
In the event of a tie at the end of the competition, the winner will be the entrant with the highest number of correct nominations through the year. If it is still a tie, the player with the lowest average age for their dead entrants will be the winner. If it's still a tie, then it's a draw. This game really isn't that important.
You canot pick someone who has been sentenced to die within the next year. If their penalty is reduced you will be allowed to pick them.
You may not pick someone if it has been publicised that they are suffering from a long term illness like cancer. I will make exceptions depending on the illness.

Apparently it's a rumour or something. However I believe it's true he has pancreatic cancer unfortunately, and the survival rates are very low. Someone told me he has something like 5 weeks to live.

Someone told me he has something like 5 weeks to live.I heard that too. Its true he has pancreatic cancer, but a statement from him/his family/his agent says that the outlook is much more "optimistic" than the rumoured 5 weeks.

maybe you get bonuses or penalties if someone you selected last year croaks it during this year. or points should be split among everyone who got a certain person (so you get more points if you were the only one to select someone)

in any case, we should get moving on this, there's only 362 days left!

Suggestions:

-out of your chosen people, 1 must be under 30
-still excluding people with potentially deadly/terminal illnesses

points scoring suggestions:
-10 points for every celeb plus a bonus for the age ie 1pt if over 70, 2 pts if over 50, 3pts if over 30, 5pts if under 30
-bonuses are not awarded on substitutions so to avoid the Mark Speight rule (after his missus croaked it was pretty obvious he may try something daft so people did substitutions)

Just some things I had kicking round in my brain to simplify things.

I've already made my list for this year! hehe. (I was bored today)

terrorbite
10-01-2009, 12:04 AM
Those suggestions are all well and good Smartie, but they're meant to be suggestions for how people can actually score points, instead of the vast majority ending on 0 again. Your ideas mostly just make it harder :)

I think the only way to make it work better is to have double the amount of people each.

Smartie
10-01-2009, 11:42 AM
the problem is it's nigh on impossible to predict such a thing.
even the 'official death list 2008' only hit 14/50 people listed, and their list is allowed to include the terminally ill (ariel sharon, patrick swizzle etc).

so the only realistic way for people to get more is include to the ill people.
which we could, but not allow them a bonus.

Emubas
10-01-2009, 11:56 AM
Surest way to score points is to go out and bump people off yourself, really, like in that Dirty Harry film.
