Takeshi's castle

As there is a Banzai thread i thought i'd ask about a real crazy Japanese game show. They show it on Challenge TV and it's entirely mad.

They basically get hundreds of nutty Japanese people and wittle them down using a series of mad games until there are about 8 of them and then they have to try and storm the castle using little dodgem things wit paper targetsa on the front that the cxastle guards have to break. It's well cool.

My favourite game is the high roller game where they have to run across a series of rollers whilst being shot at.

They then have a grand final where the winner gets a million yen with such challenges as running up a hill with giant wings strapped to you whilst a huge industrial fan blows you baqck down...absolutely insane...

I'd never seen anyone win it either, until last Saturday evening when one team did win. I was amazed as I've watched loads of episodes and the contestants never win usually......but there you go.

They had changed the last game so they were shooting "lasers" ;) instead of water cannons and it seemed to help the players. Maybe that's what did it.

I don't like Takeshi's Castle, but I like Most Extreme Elimination Challenge which is a north american version. It is basically exeprts from Takishi's castle with sarcastic comedy voiceovers. It's better than Takeshi's castle because it tends to pick out highlights so you only see the bad falls and it takes out the whole gameshow aspect so it looks even more mad.

TC is cool

Hig Rollers is great fun - I have seen some very nasty (yet funny) falls and also Stepping Stones is great - some great fun to be had there!!

Though I have never seen anyone get past the guards at the end :( They always get blown up inside 2 minutes

Been watching this for a while now and I have seen a couple of winners. My favourite events are...
Knock Knock - Why do they go head first? That has a bad day written all over it.
Wipeout - Some spectacular falls.
The Gauntlet - The bloke that comes out and goes "Yeeeaaarrrrggghhhh" is just brilliant. What is he there for?

There are plenty of others that are great. Must be one of the best shows on telly. Craig Charles is a legend! "You wazzock!"

the guy who made/hosts this show is Takeshi Kitano... a pretty good film director. Check out some of his stuff, my favorite's Kikujiro

Japaneise programs have no prize and I'm not quite sure but ¥1,000,000 isn't that much (I think so, but I'm not quite sure, I'm using Toy Story 2 as a backup)

edit: oh, and I watch the show whenever I get a chance too, craig charles makes it funny though... and the pain... oh the pain :D

1 million yen is about £5000 give or take the exchange rate and i've only seen them give that out on a special, also from what i have hear there were only ever 100 episodes taped but there was loads of extra footage.

Takeshi's castle is funny mainly becuase of random japanese people, but after about 10 episodes the slapstick looses its appeal.

takeshi's castle is the dogs bollocks, i've seen the contestants win 2wice, and the presenter goes mental.
my favourite is the bowling ball, and the one where they get shot of the bridge.
as for craig charles, red dwarf was great, but he has become a parody of himself outside of it, not the worst person to come out of a sitcom *cough* mike tomlinson *cough*

Takeshi's Castle severly rules my fave part of it is wipeout and highrollers oh and velco fly that rocks! Although the karokee bit is boring in the count of you don't know what they are singing! I remember watching it and only one person was in the final round

TC is totally crazy and totally epitomises japanese TV. The sheer randomness of it is great, plus the sight of 100 japanese people making complete tits of themselves can't be beaten...

I've used to watch this some time ago, but I used to watch "The Gladiators" at the same time, so I guess it explains a lot. If someone likes the look f chicken-looking (don't ask me why I think they are chicken-looking, they just are ;]) Japaneese run arround some obstacles and hit themselves on the head a lot, then it'r the show for him.

I've heard of some nasty casualties though. No KIA, but a rather disturbing bunch of broken bones (ribs, legs, arms and from what I've heard even spines).
