Which one do you prefer and why?. I don't care because I love both but it sure isnt the same thing without the guitar solos of the old alubums...and what do you think about St.Anger? :nana:

old, definitely...

then they got soft, cut off their hair and all...

which is fine by me, the guys got older, and evolved musically, fair enough...

then their sales went down and the fans complained, and they brought in St Anger...
which is crap compaired to the old material, and doesn't make them very credible anymore.

Seeing as I missed the glory days of the band I would have to go with both. I have heard songs from various eras of the band (the new one, "st anger" is quite catchy, and the upcoming single, the one they played at the vma's is cool as well, however you can instantly tell it's not treading the same ground as earlier albums) and can say metallica will always be influential and no matter how many times they change their style a little they will forever be metallica as far as I see it. Now Hardcore fans will say the new stuff is crap, and from a old stuff perspective, it is, but from a musical perspective (for I am but a mere onlooker concerning this band) it isn't rotten garbage.

There's only one metallica to me, and there will only ever be one.

I love anything that comes from 'em. Not picky like some of the oldies.

I kind of agree with the new metallica idea, but in being different, in my view they are crap. Don't like that new bassist guy at all either, he's like, always pushing to the front of pictures and everywhere trying to look mean with his wispy schoolboy facial hair. Doesn't work. And i love guitar solos far too much to allow metallica to drop them.

Oh and whatever your name is, horde whore or whatever, i doubt anybody's gonna GIVE A FLYING FUCK ABOUT YOUR RPGs AND MMORPGORSPRPs IN A MUSIC SECTION.

lord horde made a thread about the horde in the music section already. In this thread they have already been directed towards the gaming section of the forum, and yet they continue to talk about gaming, RPGs and whatever, in the music forum, and I get called an ass for disliking that fact?

i dislike the way you put it

i find you too insignificant to make it a quote but look:
"i doubt anybody's gonna GIVE A FLYING FUCK ABOUT YOUR RPGs AND MMORPGORSPRPs IN A MUSIC SECTION."
thats not too nice is it?

well if someone's been told nicely once, and totally disregarded what they were told, I see no reason in continuing to being nice towards them. If they ain't gonna learn from niceness, why carry on being nice?

Look...that question has already been answered. And yes that's totally valid, I don't call myself a metallica fan.

well, i think that about sums it up. it's all a matter of taste. the old is to my taste, and i think they suffer without the groovy instrumentals. however, i'm not about to belittle someone just because they prefer the mundane drivel they're peddling nowadays. ok, i am, but whatever; they can like whatever they want to like. i don't have to like it, and i don't. it's a shame they've changed, but nothing lasts forever. it's like a 20-something year old marriage: the spark has gone, and i want a divorce.
therefore i shall content myself with listening to "four horsemen" again.

woo for non sequiturs!

new or old... new or old... new or old...

I don't know... where do you draw the line?

What's new?
What's old?

My favourite album is ReLoad, although I think the songs on Black Album are better... my favourite song is Fade to Black and that one's on Ride the Lightning...

I'm not too fond of St. Anger... I agree with digga, it just isn't the same without guitar solos... but a couple of the songs are quite catchy.

K, only just getting into Metallica after seeing them @ Reading.
Haven't heard St Anger, or much of all the others tbh.

But what I have listened to is the older stuff (after they were thrash). I like. Lots.

Raaaaaaaah, Metallica!!

All of it... Except.. well, I'm not too keen on St Anger, but I've only really heard 2 songs from it (st.anger and frantic) st.anger i don't like much, although it has started to grow on me =/
frantic's ok - but only bits of it.
Black album, kill em all, ride the lightning and master of puppets. Best albums :D

Metallica can really be split up into four eras:

Thrash Era: Ride the Lightning, Kill Em' All, Master of Puppets
Heavy Metal Era: ...And Justice for All, The Black Album
Hard Rock Era: Load, Reload, Garage Inc., S&M
Let's Milk it For All It's Worth Era: St. Anger.

If you like St.Anger, fair enough. But take a second to compare it to any of the other eras, and it just plain sucks. How can you merely term it 'different'? it is, without a shadow of a doubt, not as good as the old material. Where are the guitar solos? Where are the intelligent lyrics? This nu-metallica is nothing short of puerile, the lyrics are immature, and almost meaningless. It's almost like they forgot how to play their instruments, they play SO BADLY.

But like I said. Nothing wrong with liking it if that's your bag. :)

that's a very good split up. exactly how it is.
though I'd like to call the 4th era:
Oh Shi, The Hard Rock Doesn't Sell As Much Era
