Compare CGI with minitures... which is better? Recommended viewing from this topic: Blade Runner, Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Aliens.
Which look more realistic?

It's wholly dependent on which film/how much available cash/which sfx company is used. For example, if you are talking about CGI characters then Gollum wipes his ass with the majority of Ray Harryhausens work but comparing scenery then Attack of the Clones wipes it's ass with Time Bandits...
Like for like and all things being equal miniatures are probably a little better for now but cgi is ALWAYS improving - soon it will be almost impossible to tell.

omg minitures. yoda looked so fake in the "new" star wars.
i also hated the mods they did in et in the rerelease. made me cry. now et doesn't look like he is in the frame with elliot.

I agree totally - yoda and ET were more believeable back then
*And why did they have to replace guns with walky-talkies?*

The new star wars over used CGI to the point where every god damn space ship looked shiny and brand new. In the old ones the ships looked battered and frequently used making it more realistic.
PS new yoda sucks, far to mobile for an 800 year old
Meanwhile LOTR has pulled off using cgi because it didnt make all of the characters using it, (hint to george lucas) and that the LOTR is just far better than new star wars.

I think they were supposed to be better times back then...that's why they have nicer looking stuff and cooler technology (i.e. Darth Maul's lightsaber)
